Last spring I shot a lot of night pictures on the Mark Twain so I thought I'd put them together into a single voyage. You can't do this while Fantasmic! is running so not everyone gets a chance to go on a night cruise. These pictures are from various positions on the Mark Twain so we'll jump around quite a bit on the ship while we take a loop around the island.
You can click on any of these pictures to see a much larger version. There are more pictures available in this gallery. For the techheads among you, most of these were shot with a Canon 40D and a Sigma 30mm F/1.4 lens.
Our captain is giving us a few words before we board. I can't remember everything he said but it definitely included "no gambling". Too bad. I was planning a Texas hold'em game.
Let's board quickly and take a look around before it fills up with people.
Wow. Somebody's camera has got one heck of a big flash unit.
Ah. I guess that last picture was a form of flash photography. But I didn't make the flash so I'm not in trouble or anything. Oh wait. That's only in rides. Nevermind.
They schedule the Mark Twain so you can watch the fireworks from the ship. The trip starts as soon as the fireworks finish. It's an unusual view and worth doing if you're looking for a change of pace in your fireworks viewing.
Before we go let's take a look at some of the unusual views you can get from the top deck.
Well, it looks like we're ready to cast off.
Okay, we're finally underway.
You know, there's quite a few people out here. Just because Fantasmic! isn't running doesn't mean it's deserted at night.
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
Have I mentioned that there's lots of people out here? Hey guys! Fantasmic's not playing tonight!
Oboy! Interesting things coming up.
Oh bugger! I forgot to bring my death certificate.
I know the Hungry Bear isn't very picturesque but I have fond memories of
cheeseburgers veggie burgersonion rings I've had there.
Plus they sometimes wave as we pass. Hi right back!
There's lots of people waving at us tonight. Hi right back!
Looks like we're close to the end of our trip.
I wonder if the younger folks realize that this used to be an operating train? The mine train was one of my favorite rides.
Well. We're back. I hope everyone enjoyed the trip.
