What exactly is the theme of the Disneyland Hotel?

I've been wondering. What exactly is the theme of the Disneyland Hotel?

I know in the old remodeled rooms there seems to be a little bit of Victorian/Fantasyland type style, but it only remains within the room. This is in comparison to other Disneyland Hotels worldwide which do the full Fantasyland theme inside and out.

Now with the new remodeled rooms, can we say that the theme is gonna become more Contemporary? From the remodeled room pics I've seen, it doesnt look very modern to me but I like the mixture of modern and fantasy design so...modern fantasy?

I'd hate to think that the Disneyland Hotel really has no theming. That would defy the magical experience of staying in a Disney hotel. I wouldnt mind if it's stays with a contemporary kinda style.

    Thoughts time

It is...themed as a hotel next to Disneyland?

Really, that is about it. In the early days it was pretty bare bones. There are Disney touches, of course, the displays and framed artwork/photos, the Neverland pool, the Jungle Cruise boat pond, the waterfalls and koi pond..but it is not "themed" per se like the Grand Californian or the Disney World resort hotels.

Re: What exactly is the theme of the Disneyland Hotel?

There really isn't one overlying theme to the hotel. It is just themed to keep you immersed in Disneyland Magic and to that end, it does well. I don't know if they plan on redesigning the interiors of the rest of the hotel once all the rooms are done but I do know they are going to be leveling the Neverland Pool and turning it into a Fantasyland themed area with a Castle and such. It almost makes me sad that they are getting rid of the Neverland Pool theming but I also trust that whatever they do will be amazing.

Anyone who didn't know better would hear "Disneyland Hotel" and think 'Fantasyland with rooms', instead its .....just a contemporary hotel. WDW didn't even bother to be misleading with the name of their Contemporary Hotel lol

    This has always bothered me.

There aren't any Disney hotels that really live up to what you would initially think when you heard the term 'Disney hotel'. There are some that are close though.... I guess :\

Re: What exactly is the theme of the Disneyland Hotel?

I think that the theme is "Disneyland". The old rooms had images of disneyland all over the bed spreads and furniture as well as disney characters on the wall paper and disneyland artwork on the walls. The new rooms do seem a little more like what you would see in any nice hotel though. The Disneyland theme isn't really plastered everywhere like it used to be. I am not sure if it is an improvement on theme. Although the head boards are kinda cool.

Just a little reminder, The Disneyland and Paradise Pier Hotels were not original Disney properties. DLH was only bought by Disney in 1988 and the Paradise Pier was originally The Emerald and then Pan Pacific.

All the other Hotels were built by Disney from the ground up, a lot easier doing a great theme job that way. Of course Disney has done a tremendous amount of changes since 1988 to the DLH.

    Disneyland Hotel theme?

    uh, Disneyland . . .

It's a little Fantasyland with the new castle headboards and the Neverland Pool,
It's a little Adventureland with the mini Jungle Cruise Boats,
    Goofy's Kitchen has the characters,
The main gift shop is themed after Fantasia . . .

Don't try to read too much into a theme at the DL Hotel.

Re: What exactly is the theme of the Disneyland Hotel?

The name of the hotel is DISNEYLAND HOTEL, built by Jack Wrather in mid-century architecture style. There is no theme but the center certainly seems to be more Peter Pan friendly.

There's the Neverland Pool, The Lost Bar, and Hook's Point fine dining.

The first named theme at the DLH was "Water World," starting in 1970. The area included a marina with anchored sailboats on display, paddleboats for rent, wooden piers, a Polynesian-style "Seaports of the Pacific" shopping area, swimming pools with sand beaches, seafood restaurant and dancing waters show. Nautical blue-and-white logos were on everything from trash cans to matchbooks to room note paper and Hotel publications. The "Water Wonderland" area, including the Horseshoe Falls, was added with the Bonita Tower in 1979.

The marina was replaced with the kiddie-friendly "Neverland" theme pirate ship/pool play area when DTD was constructed. I don't know what DLH's theme is called today, if it's called anything. Judging from the new room decor that's gradually being installed, I'd guess "Disney Magic Contempo"...?

For details on Disneyland Hotel's history, the expert is author Don Ballard, whose book Disneyland Hotel: The Early Years is a truly authoritative source. His blog is here.

Ahhh yes... And there was also in that marina a building that housed a fantastic gaming arcade. One of the first places I was introduced to the Star Wars arcade games. It was an awesome late night diversion.
