DLR Monorail Down For Refurb................ During Park Hours????

So, today, I was in the park and the DLR Monorail was open and guests were boarding. Later on in the day, I came back to ride the monorail to DTD to eat at Rain Forest Cafe, and the monorail station was closed with a sign out front that said, "CLOSED FOR REFURBISHMENT." It is weird to close it for refurb during when the park is open.

    Anyone know why?

Maybe it got stuck, things happen. You can't expect the monorail (or any ride) to work at 100% efficiency.

I went specifically to ride the Monorail and found it closed. I had to shop instead.

Any ride can go down for any number of reasons at any time without any warning. You just never know. Especially with systems as complex as some of these are that take as much abuse as some of them do.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

I think it's interesting that in Orlando the monorail is integral to moving guests between Epcot & Magic Kingdom and the most expensive hotels on property. I'm sure it is no coincidence that I have never seen WDW shut down their monorail system on my trips out there.

Conversely in my many stays at The Grand Californian Hotel and Disneyland Hotel I don't think I've had one trip where the monorail wasn't shut down for 4 hours or more on at least one day of our trip. These occurred with both the old Mark V and Mark VII monorails and takes into account the scheduled closures for DCA, DGC and FNSV not to mention the riderless testing for the train upgrades listed here: Disneyland Monorail System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I know the two resorts are vastly different in size and transportation needs. It just seems that if WDW can manage to keep their 11 trains running all day without shutting down big parts of their system you'd think it would be easier for DLR to manage similar performance with their three trains.

I'm sure Ed Grier probably figured that the monorail was just a ride and not "transportation." He probably figured the whole DLR property is walking distance and that guests could hump it back to their hotels. I suspect that Ed never tried to hump it back to Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier after spending 15 hours in the parks with kids yanking and pulling on his arms all day. Hopefully George has a wiser view of what the guest experience is like.

This is kind of like saying:

"The Mark Twain is down during park hours?"

Or any other attraction for that matter. The monorail is just another attraction. Things break. Things malfunction. Things get refurbed.

I was there for the past 2 days and it was down both days. I did see that they were doing a bunch of painting up in the Tomorrowland Station.

Well last time I saw the rehab schedule the monorail was listed for a 2 day refurb.

I'm guessing mid-week this week was a good time to probably do some beam work.

The Walt Disney World Monorails also do not need to worry about pyrotechnic fallout every night due to fireworks. Disneyland's close for a few hours every night just from this. Walt Disney World also never invested money in a new model of Monorail that even now still has kinks to work out.
