How big is the "surprise" Splash Mountain drop?

Today I discovered that the Splash Mountain drop is the same length as the first Pirates of the Caribbean one. I do realize that the Splash Mountain one is quite steeper. But it made me wonder just how big the second Splash Mountain drop actually is in comparison to the final one. It's quite dark so you can't really tell how far it is that you're dropping, but it feels almost the same length as the last one.

Anyway, I was wondering if anybody could tell me how long it is and the angle.

Wow I had no idea! I know that it is 52.5 ft tall but I have no idea how steep it is. Where did you hear about POTC?

Fun Facts of Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean - #4 describes the Pirates drop as "Length - 52 feet Angle - 21 degrees"

Fun Facts of Disneyland's Splash Mountain - #23 says "Splash Mountain has a 52-and-a-half foot drop at a 45-degree angle, going at a speed of 40 miles an hour" (feels a lot faster lol)

Okay, so the Splash Mountain drop is actually HALF a foot longer, so I guess I was slightly wrong on that. lol

Also, I just found this video on youtube and find it very hard to believe that both drops are the same length: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cHtI6YJVWM"]YouTube - Pirates Of The Caribbean-Disneyland History-501[/ame] (15 seconds in)

I am debating telling my mom this, that is her least favorite part of Splash but she loves POTC.

    Thanks for the info!

Pirates' drop is 52 feet long, Splash's drop is 52.5 feet tall. Slight difference in wording, but very different meaning.

Ahhhh, so the length of the drop would actually be over a hundred feet then? I guess that makes sense but I have a friend that just swears by them being the same length.

Either way, I was more curious how big the dark drop in Splash Mountain is.

Indeed, although the height of splash may be 52.5 feet, the overall length at a forty five degree angle would be 105 feet right? I don't know I'm awful with math but I think this is the concept.

edit. this is pythagorean theorum now that I think about it. so it'd be less than 105, and more than 55.5 I'm too lazy to get out the calculator on this though. some math guy can do the 'A squared' plus 'B squared' equals 'C squared' thing.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

The sine function relations the side opposite an angle to the hypotenuse. So a 45 degree angle opposite a side of length 55.5 feet results in a drop length of about 78.5 feet.

I believe PrototypeX85 is referring to the drop in the dark before all the bees. Unfortunately, I don't think I have any hard numbers for that drop right now, but based on the information available to me, I think it should be somewhere in the ballpark of 10 feet tall. That's just the difference in height between the start of the drop and the end of the drop - it goes up and down a few times, so the first part of the drop ought to be a little taller.

Now, I do have more accurate numbers for the horizontal length of the drop. Should be about 90 feet from the start of the drop to when you level off. Again, though, this is just horizontal distance - the length of the flume would have to be somewhat longer.
