Question will Star Tours II live up to the hype???

I am really looking forward to this new attraction, but for some reason I don't think it will be hit. I was at the official announcement for the new ride at the D23 expo and was really stoked to hear about the change.

However, the more that I think about it, the more I wonder if this attempt to revive this dated attraction will be a success. All I know is that there is going to be a new 3D video. Is the queue going to be changed at all? are the simulators going to be updated?

I believe that there will still be some people that will still complain. For me however, as long as the ride is still fun and still delivers on the randomization of trips then I'll be happy!

What hype? I haven't heard the words "Star Tours II" in months. It's completely being overshadowed by WOC, and Mermaid.

Re: will Star Tours II live up to the hype???

The Disney PR machine always seems to ramp up in the months before the debut of the attraction. In years past WDI was content to go the WED road of letting the attraction's quality speak for itself. Now... now everything is forcefed to the public in a manner that leads them to either love or hate the end result. In many cases what is promised does not match what is delivered.

Personally I find it annoying, but I really don't care unless they cross some sort of line and state that something is an "upgrade" when it detracts from the attraction (the bouncing theater in EO is an example of this).

there really has not been any real hype to it yet , the closer it gets im betting there will be more, but for now nothing and thats fine with me..i think the star wars hype machine has learned its lesson ala star wars episode 1..i dont know about you but by the time 6 months before the film came out i almost felt like i have seen it...i like the less is more approach they are takeing with star tours 2.0..my expectations are not sky high, i basicly have none.. i have a wait and see about it..there can be quite a distance between concept and final product when it comes to theme park attractions.

Re: will Star Tours II live up to the hype???

Quick answer: it will not live up to the hype... unless Disney pulls out all the stops.

It wouldn't be fair nor accurate to compare this with the Star Wars prequels, which came 15 years following the end of the first trilogy. We all know that the movies were just not as good as they should have been.

Now, a 2nd star tours has been rumored since around 1999 when the prequel was being released. That's 11 years of build-up. And that really shouldn't matter as long as the ride is the best it could possibly be.

It's just been awhile since WDI really blew my mind in CA. 1986 with Captain EO. 1987 with Star Tours. 1989 with Splash Mountain. 1992 with Fantasmic. 1995 with Indiana Jones Adventure.

Dude, the Starspeeder is being pursued by BOBA FETT. Of course it lives up to the hype.

The one in DL might, but not the one in WDW I'm sure because of their management.

yeah unfortunate that WDW would not or could notput up the budget for it..,but i think its a fair trade WDW gets the star wars celebrations..and we get the properly budgeted ride...

Re: will Star Tours II live up to the hype???

Here is why I think it will be a disappointment:

Compare the original Star Wars trilogy to the new trilogy. It's going to be the same kind of deal here.

It'll be fully of shiny CGI graphics and every frame will be chalk full of computer pixels vomiting digital excitement all over us. And the end result will be nothing but boring.

Mr. Plinket covered this quite thoroughly in his reviews of Episode I and II:
    Episode I
    Episode II

There's something awe inspiring about a movie or film that uses miniatures and clever camera techniques for the special effects. I am more impressed with Dune than I am with Star Wars or Avatar, simply because it feels more real.

You nailed it right on the head my good man. Even Dr. Emelius Browne looks 100x more real playing soccer with those crazy animals then Star Wars 1-3 combined.

As long as they keep Jar-Jar Binks out...it will make a better ride.
