    Tombstones at the Haunted Mansion...

So, where did they go anyway? I noticed they've been missing awhile back, but at what point did they get taken out? (I'm talking about the humorous ones that you used to be able to see from the line outside)

The pet cemetery? Or the vaults up against the hill? As far as I know they are still there..but maybe someone on here can clarify more.

You see them if they are using the whole outside queue for HM, if the lines been short that's probably why you haven't been seeing them. Someone on here recently at the parks will let you know for sure soon though.

Re: Tombstones at the Haunted Mansion...

The hill tombstones went away in the 2001-2002 time period, when they did the first Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay, and never came back sadly.

Here's a few photos, mostly supplied/put together by our own member HBG2 over in the Haunted Mansion Long-Forgotten effect thread:

What is lesser known is that the tombstones out back originally had a small landscaped graveyard right in the middle of where the current patio "switchbacks" are located.

those (or ones similar to those) are BEHIND the attraction. if u were to leave the queue right by the horse & carriage & walk behind the carriage, towards Splash Mountain. u can see a walkway to the left. if u follow that walkway, youll go to the NORTHSIDE of HM. & can see them back there. i've personally been brought by a cast member to see them. dont know if they are still there - but they should be

As far as I know, the original pet cemetery is where you describe, IF. Last time I was back there, none of the human tombstones were there....could be it has changed though, but no verification on that from recent visits/word of mouth.

Oh good! So I'm not crazy. (Not in this respect, anyway.) I thought I had remembered seeing a landscaped graveyard when I was younger. Thanks for posting that. This is something that had been puzzling me for a while.

Not at all, though I hadn't noticed they were missing. Bummer.

Here's a photo of the "hidden" pet cemetery near the HM exit. My daughter, Eloise, was reading a Disneyland trivia book that mentioned it, so she HAD TO FIND IT! We got a talking-to by a cast member for going back there without asking first (oops!) but Eloise was happy to see it as evidenced by the photo!

The bear band bears are playing now, in the good ol' key of G.
There's Zeke and Zeb and Ted and Fred and bear named Tennessee...

I was just talking about these, yesterday. I wonder why they even got rid of them, since there seems to be no reason to. The only reason I could think of is maybe they would be too complicated to remove and replace year after year for the NBC overlay. I always liked the little epitaphs, "Here lies Uncle Fred. A great big rock fell on his head." "R.I.P. Cousin Hewitt. We all know you didn't do it." If I have those wrong, it's only because I haven't seen them in so long.

Was all of the pet cemetery moved to the front..or is there still a "hidden" part that you can access?
