I agree with the poster above, the new building design is very simple compared to the art I posted, yet it is still nice looking. I guess what REALLY counts is what the ride is actually like.

I'm not surprise they're skimping out on the detailing and theming for the building considering the how the rest of the retheming of the pier has been done rather halfass.
I have to agree with Rob. What is being "skimped"?. From what I am seeing the attention to detail is terrific. I love it so far. The details I've been able to pick out of the photos we've been graced with suggest a very smooth integration with the cornerstone Palace of Fine Arts. I am thrilled with what I've been able to "find" under the tarps. Just my opinion.
I'm not going to answer for "toonaspie", but one thing that I can see being skimped so far (unless it gets added later) is the Ariel stained class window above the center entrance to the building. I was really looking forward to seeing that come to fruition.![]()
Yeah, i'm not seeing the skimping either. The building exterior isn't even halfway finished, and the side they are working on is still behind tarps.
Isn't it a little too early to say they aren't adding details/themeing to the building?
Where? Besides the MFW queue, I think every project so far has been consistent quality. Silly Symphony Swings? Paradise Park? The Midway Mania building? And still many projects to go, I think its a bit unfair to say that every retheming project has been "halfass"![]()

Really? I love the new design, has a more elegant look I think. And the bigger arch is inspired by a real-life building in an old CA boardwalk.
Inspired by the Dragon Gorge scenic railway at the long-gone Ocean Park amusement zone in Southern California, the new Little Mermaid ride building has a dramatic arch that will feature relief carvings of frolicking mermaids and King Triton. Nautically themed glass work and tile work is designed to blend with the 1920s and ’30s seaside amusement park motif of the surrounding Paradise Pier area.![]()

I also think the detail level looks fine. Remember, most Disney show buildings are relatively hidden. This one is very much on stage. Because of its size, too much "stuff" on the building facade, too me, would look busy and gaudy. There has to be the right balance of detail and streamlined design on a building that big.
PP seems like a difficult puzzle to solve from a Disney point of view. We are used to intimate spaces, and PP is long sight-lines, a big bay, a big park, a large scale roller-coaster, etc... the design aesthetic has to be different from what we are used to.
Still, I hope the stucco on AUA doesn't look like the rest of DCA's awful stucco.

I have fantasized stained glass onto this attraction. I love the art. If the design of this building allows for glass, I say go for it. I, for one, would be thrilled. Tastefully done, the ocean environment begs a stained glass treatment.

The Ariel stained glass is not being skimped. You know why? Because it wasn't in the plans. All those versions of the building were CONCEPTS, not actual plans. This came up consistently during the retheme of OS->SSS and will probably come up once again during the MM->GSS retheme. Almost every single image in the BSS or leaked out has been concept art, not final blueprints. They are someones idea of what a possible facade could be.
We need to remind ourselves of that when we see this type of artwork so that we don't get to attached to ideas that are merely concepts and not actual plans or final renderings.
The stained glass was a really cool idea, but they obviously decided to go a different route than that concept art... and as they know what the overall plan for PP is, I say that they may just have had the right idea.
In terms of detail, I don't see how they are skimping. The detailing they've added so far in places like TSMM and SSS rivals the detailing on MS. It holds up the closer you get to it very well. I foresee much the same level if not slightly more on the TLM building as they will want to at the very least continue the thematic level they have already started setting, even with the Games of the Boardwalk.
Remember, just because we've seen artwork doesn't mean we have any idea what the final product is supposed to look like. I have to remind myself of this constantly through this whole project.
Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter
Not to mention the fact that there'd be lasers shining directly into the VIPs' eyes, simba!Next time you watch the show, look back up at the trees and TLM show building - you can see the lasers illuminating them. They're never angled low enough to shine into the viewing area, but Disney knows that no one will be watching the show from above the viewing area, so the lasers can and do point right above that.
EDIT: Also, I agree about the detail level. Unless I've missed something, we have no reason to believe that the end product is going to look cheap. None of the redone structures in Paradise Pier do - as you said, mycroft, they have a level of detail and charm comparable to that of Main Street. The only problem is that many areas haven't gotten that sort of treatment, and so we're seeing the original Paradise Pier bleed through. TLM, on the other hand, is an entirely new structure. They can't just...not build part of it.Because everything they've newly built thus far in Paradise Pier has been attractive and nostalgic and stylistically consistent, I see no reason to believe that TLM will be different.
From what I've seen so far, I'm also worried about the details in Carsland. None of the buildings have near the amount of detail I was expecting. They are all very bare and utilitarian. Looks like they went cheap there too.
Lol, what more could you ask for. :P
An interesting ride could be made, but how would that fit in with Carsland, Bugsland, or Hollywoodland?
