BUENA VISTA STREETOverall Project: Retheming of Sunshine Plaza into Buena Vista Street (originally planned to be called Walt Disney Plaza). New park icon, the Carthay Circle Theatre, Red Car Trolley transportation system, and various shops and restaurants.
Project Status: This project has gone through several false starts and re-schedulings including an early 2009, September 2011, and late 2010 start dates. On February 23, 2010,
Al Lutz reported the project, scheduled to start in October 2010, began September 9 when removal of the Sunshine Plaza sun icon began, followed by the demolition of the tile murals on September 13. Construction will last for 18 months.

Performance Corridor closure & Pixar Play Parade hiatusDetails: Due to construction, DCA's performance corridor will be closed in varying degrees throughout 2011, including a complete closure of a large section of the thoroughfare starting in June 2011. Due to this, the Pixar Play Parade will be on hiatus for much of the year. Smaller "pop-up" shows will be used to offer entertainment during the parade's hiatus.
Project Status: Starting January 4, construction walls in Sunshine Plaza will be extended further, resulting in a tighter walkway through the park's entrance plaza. The Pixar Play Parade will go on hiatus January 4, which is expected to last until November. During this time, smaller "Pixar Pop-Up" shows will entertain guests elsewhere in the park in lieu of a full parade.
New main entry turnstilesDetails: The current main entry turnstiles to Disney's California Adventure and the CALIFORNIA letters will be removed and new turnstiles/gate styled after Los Angeles' Pan Pacific Auditorium will be constructed in the current location of the CALIFORNIA letters.
Project Status: To begin early 2011.

CALIFORNIA letter removalDetails: The DisneyParks Blog announced on December 9 that the removal of the CALIFORNIA letters would be removed starting January 4, 2011.

New facades, shops and diningDetails: A new Main Street-esque street will house new shops and dining, replacing the tile murals, restrooms, lockers, and Guest Services/AP Processing buildings. The new shop facades will feature nods to Walt Disney's rich life history on shop windows, including "Elias & Co. Dept. Store" and "Oswald’s Gas & Oil." For more information,

Baker's Field Bakery, Bur-r-r Bank Bakery, and Engine-Ears Toys closingDetails: The shops and restaurants on Sunshine Plaza's west side

Temporary Park EntranceDetails: The on-again-off-again temporary park entrance at the utility entrance between Soarin' Over California and the Grand Californian Hotel is back on, according to the OC Register's Around Disney blog. Previously expected to be the main entry point for the park while the entire main entrance was closed for construction, the corridor will now serve as a mere detour as guests enter through the park's current main entrance and then take a backstage route that empties between Soarin' and the Grand Californian.
Project Status: Temporary entrance rerouting begins August 29, 2011.

Carthay Theatre / Walt Disney StoryDetails: The Walt Disney Story attraction is reportedly cancelled. Carthay Theatre building will be built, however, and is scheduled to house a relocated Resort Preview Center.

Disney Channel Rocks! showDetails: High School Musical 3 moving stage show will be replaced with a new show featuring music from Disney Channel hits including High School Musical, Camp Rock, and StarStruck. The show, previously expected to utilize the High School Musical 3 rolling stage, takes place on the Palisades Stage in Paradise Park. Disney announced the new show on the DisneyParks Blog on July 29, 2010.

Disney's Electrical Parade enhancementsDetails: A new Tinkerbell lead float will replace the Blue Fairy and Snow White and Pinocchio units will return to the parade along with an updated soundtrack and a new "pixie dust" lighting effects on all floats.

Retheming of Games of the Boardwalk, Mullholland Madness, Sun Wheel, Orange Stinger, Pizza Oom Mow Mow, and Burger Invasion. Removal of Maliboomer and Golden Dreams. Addition of Paradise Park and The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure.
Project Status: In Progress
Project Completion/Soft Open: First phase concluded with the opening of Toy Story Midway Mania! and the surrounding area's re-theming with soft-openings in April 2008 and a official opening in July 2008. Additional phases of this project are on-going.
Maliboomer removalDetails: The Maliboomer will be dismantled and removed and the space formerly occupied by the attraction will be converted in a Victorian-style park area with shade trees and seating. On March 30, 2010,
Al Lutz reported the Maliboomer would be closed "the day after labor day." Disney
confirmed the news on August 6, 2010 via a Tweet from the official Disneyland Resort Twitter account, which included a link to a DisneyParks Blog post that discussed Cars Land and Mullholland Madness news, but nothing about the Maliboomer. The
linked blog post was later edited to include the Maliboomer closure information.
Project Status: In progress. The Maliboomer closed September 7, 2010 and was completely dismantled by mid-October. Work continues removing attraction infrastructure, queue and shade structures in the area before being re-themed as a garden area.

The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Adventure and Mermaid Grotto (Includes Removal of Golden Dreams)Project Status: In progress. Golden Dreams closed to the public September 7, 2008 with the attraction open to school groups only through Spring 2009. Construction walls went up around Golden Dreams May 27, 2009. Originally expected to be demolished July 6, the Golden Dreams Theater demolition was delayed to July 15. The theater has since been completely removed and construction on the new attraction is in progress.

Mullholland Madness re-theme to Goofy's Sky SchoolDetails: Removal "Mullholland Drive" theme including street signs, highway billboards, etc. The roller coaster will get new theme inspired by the 1940 cartoon short, "Goofy’s Glider," and will become a flying academy that follows Goofy’s attempts to teach a group of novice pilots how to fly.
Project Status: In progress after being delayed numerous times. Originally expected to start January 2010 was put on hold. On March 30, 2010,
Al Lutz reported the project was scheduled to begin in October 2010 for a seven-month transformation. On August 6, the
DisneyParks Blog confirmed the attraction would close October 12, 2010 (last day for guests October 11).

California Screamin' queue / Eastern Paradise Pier re-themingProject Status: Delayed indefinitely.

Corn Dog Castle rethemingDetails: The quick service dining location was originally said to be undergoing a Victorian-style re-theming in order to match the surrounding area's new theme. A
June 30 report from MousePlanet's David Koenig says otherwise, however, indicating the dining location will be moved from its current location and reopen at a new location in Cars Land in 2012.

Paradise Garden - Expanded dining courtyardDetails: Covering the area encompassing Pizza Oom Mow Mow, Burger Invasion, and the S. S. rustworthy, the new Paradise Garden dining area will re-purpose the existing dining facilities and reuse the current S.S. rustworthy water play area for an expanded dining courtyard with Victorian-style theming in a lush garden setting.
Open Date: Previously expected to open May 2010, the project was postponed and is now expected to officially open May 24, 2011.
S.S. rustworthy removalProject Status: Completed. The east portion of the S.S. rustworthy was removed in October 2009 during Silly Symphony Swings construction. The west portion of the water play area was removed starting in September 2010 during demolition for the upcoming Paradise Garden dining area.

Paradise Garden Grill (Burger Invasion re-theming) Project Status: In progress. The former McDonald's dining location closed September 2, 2008. Construction walls went up in late June 2010 to begin construction.

Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta (Pizza Oom Mow Mow re-theme) Details: The existing Pizza Oom Mow Mow dining facility will retain its pizza-and-pasta menu, but will be re-dressed with a new Victorian-style theme.
Project Status: In progress. Previously expected to begin fall 2009, construction walls went up in the area September 7, 2010, followed by heavy demolition and building modification work throughout the fall.

Jumpin' Jellyfish removalProject Status: Jumpin' Jellyfish was originally slated to be removed before Spring 2010 premiere of World of Color, but it may remain in place for the indefinite future.

Disney's World of Color Nighttime SpectacularDetails: A 25-minute nighttime show, World of Color will transform Paradise Bay into a water-and-fire spectacular, utilizing 1,200 individual fountains, showcasing the magic of Disney animation, from classic to contemporary.
More details. Project Status: Show opened publicly June 11, 2010, following a "blue carpet" premiere on June 10, 2010. Work on the show began November 3, 2008 with the draining of Paradise Bay, followed by construction on Monday, January 5, 2009.
Paradise Bay refilling: Paradise Bay was scheduled to being refilling September 9, 2009 to begin show programming and testing, but refilling was delayed until October 2009. On October 15, the
DisneyParks Blog said refilling would begin "soon" and that once refilling begain, Paradise Bay would be more than half-way full in three days.
Open Date: Previously rumored to begin soft openings in March 2010 followed by a celebrity-attended grand opening event in late April, Cast Members were notified the show would open on June 11, 2010. Disney later
officially announced this information on the DisneyParks Blog.
Orange Stinger retheme to Silly Symphony SwingsProject Status: Completed. Attraction began 'dismantling' July 14, 2009 with the decorative orange peel removal beginning the week of July 20,
according to Around Disney. Scaffolding went up for new queue construction the third week of October.
Open Date: Previously expected to open April 29, 2010, the project was delayed and finally soft opened on May 29, 2010. The official opening of the ride is scheduled for June 11, 2010.
New games for Toy Story Midway Mania!, based on Toy Story 3Details: Blue Sky Disney
reported on March 8 that Toy Story Midway Mania! would receive a new lineup of games themed after the upcoming
Toy Story 3 film.
Project Status: Completed.
Open Date: The new game, Rex and Trixie's Dino Darts, debuted May 22, 2010. Additional Toy Story 3 characters are now featured throughout the attraction as well.
Paradise Park (Disney's World of Color Viewing Area)Details: A new viewing area for the upcoming
World of Color show is being constructed where the former Golden State Amphitheater was located, along the northern shore of Paradise Bay. The new viewing area will be multi-leveled, similar to Disneyland's Fantasmic! viewing area, and large enough to accommodate 9,000 guests per show.
Project Status: In progress. Began Monday, January 5, 2009.
Open Date: First delayed from its original December 18, 2009 open date Paradise Park was later scheduled to open February 20, 2010 and then again set to open in March. Walls surrounding Paradise Park are
now expected to be removed Friday, April 2. Barricades will be in place, however, preventing guests from entering the area. Paradise Park finally opened to guests on April 9.
Dinosaur Jack's Sunglass Shack removal Details: Sunglass store scheduled to close permanently May 26, 2009. The retail location will be removed completely.
Project Status: Completed. Store closed May 26, 2009, construction walls went up May 27. Demolition originally scheduled to begin June 29, but began after park closing June 24, with
visible progress to park guests on June 25.. The retail location was completely removed by Saturday, June 28.
King Triton's Carousel plussingDetails: Previous plans to build new Victorian-styled roof structure over carousel have been delayed due to cost. Rumors suggested that the carousel would get a minor re-theming and "plussing" including
new paint job and new canopy cover while attraction undergoes refurbishment and technical upgrades, but current photos of the attraction say otherwise.
Project Status: Completed May 22, 2009. Began March 9, 2009.
