Weve decided to drive down a day earlier than planned for our trip next month... the day we drive down will be a black out day for us, so i am wondering what is there to do at the Disneyland hotel these days!? I remember when I was younger there was quite a bit of shopping etc.. what can anyone recommend to keep ourselves busy that first day?

There is a store at the hotel.
There's also Goofy's Kitchen.
And while you're there, you might want to take pictures of the waterfall (sorry...koi fish are gone) since Disney feels that it should be filled in with dirt and topped w/ grass.

There is a movie theater in Downtown Disney and some good restaurants for lunch (Whitewater Snacks at Grand Californian, pizza, Ralph Brennan's take out location) and dinner (Storyteller's at GC, Rainforest, Ralph Brennan's sit down, etc). Also the book store and some of the other shops are worth a look.
I don't know if anyone has a date.
I would like to make one last trip before they fill it in.
The fish are gone, so I don't see it being too far off until the destroy the falls.

From what I understand aren't those going away too?
My kids never wanted to get out the pool and the water slide. And we would take side trips over to the other pools, but they closed those down, right? But the main pool was great because it has the tiny slides for the little ones and the big slide for the more adventurous. And if everyone got tired of that we'd trek over to Paradise Pier Hotel and go down the giant water slide. And sometimes the kids would just take a break in the cartoon room at PPH and hang out there for a while. If those are your little ones in the avatar, there is plenty to do.
Jungle Cruise Boats (yes they are going away), Arcade, A couple of stores, 2 minute walk to Downtown Disney, etc.
Sleep.
If I can't be a good roll model at least let me be a bad example.

EDIT: One year we went to Downtown Disney the day before going into the parks. (I thought we could get our shopping done there and not shop in the parks. ) Well, my 4 year old saw the Parking Lot Trams. So we had to ride those one round trip from the entrance to the parking structure and back. My little kids loved it!

Disneyland is over populated and overpriced now days.
You will have more fun if you stay on Beach Blvd in Huntington beach. The Hotels are better quality and on certain areas of the beach you can have a fire! There is plenty of shopping as well and if you drive south on the Pacific Coast Highway 10 miles you get to Newport Beach, there is a pretty little outdoor mall that is wonderful. Another 11 miles south of that and you are in Laguna Beach!
Disneyland is in crappy part of Anaheim were there is nothing to do at all unless you are a gang member or drug dealer. Disneyworld is a lot better.
