If WDI wanted to utilize Tony's talents for bigger projects, then he would be working on them. But he is not. And there is no conceivable way in this age of the Iger Austerity mindset that Tony will continue to work solely on these small enhancement projects. Not on his salary. It is inevitable that he will be "sent to 'early retirement'" in the near future. The rumored date of January sounds about right.
Look at it this way. What if the rumor about former Imagineers being contracted to design and implement the new Shanghai park is actually true? Did it not occur to anyone that the reason you haven't heard any squawking from Team Baxter about Tony's alleged retirement in January is because Tony actually wants to retire? To possibly free himself to work on far more interesting projects elsewhere in the themed entertainment contractor universe?
