Disneyland Anniversary TV specials of the past.

Since the 55th anniversary of Disneyland is around the corner, I thought it would be enjoyable, and entertaining to look back on past television specials on Disneyland's birthday. If available on youtube of course or if there were any specials at all. It seemed has the years went on, the Disney company would put on anniversary TV specials every 5 or 10 years. I persoanlly don't remember if Disney made a television special for the 50th anniversary, I even searched IMDB, I found nothing but I could be wrong. There was a Disneyland 2000: 45 Years of Magic television special hosted by Ryan Seacrest, but nothing on youtube. With that in mind, hope you enjoy these as we go back on memory lane.

Disneyland 35th Anniversary Celebration, originally aired July of 1990, hosted by Michael Eisner and directed by John Londis. I personally don't remember this one much less enjoyed it, probably because it was mostly hosted by Tony Danza.

Having the same name as the original television show back in 1954, this The Disneyland Story originally aired in 1990 on the Disney Channel. This is one of the best, very informative, and entertaining anniversary special on Disneyland. Hosted by Harry Anderson (Night Court) takes a time travel trip on the Disneyland Railroad to the past, present & future of Disneyland. The very last clip is interesting, the attractions that never came to be are mentioned, like the Dick Tracy attraction. The Little Mermaid was suppose to open 1993. In addition, near the end, we see a somewhat light-hearted, sentimental Michael Eisner where he's says something like "Disneyland is near his heart" (rolling my eyes).

Disneyland's 30th Celebration television special, is in my opinion, the best! The main theme is just 'celebration,' originally aired February 18, 1985. It was a who's who on the show, tons of the biggest 80s TV & film stars were on hand to celebrate. As well as big name performers of the day, were all staged around Disneyland performing. It's a very exciting special, and you can see & feel the fun vibe. I loved how they used Main Street Electrical parade has part of the Pointer Sisters 'Neutron Dance' performance, and the grand finale of the massive marching bands of CSU, LMU, & UCLA is very impressive. As the huge cake comes into frame down Main Street USA, and Peter Allen sings "Now, there's a cake big enough," can't help but get a little teary eyed =) What's not to like about this special?

Disneyland 59', originally aired June 15 of 1959, celebrating the park's 4th birthday, though not exactly an even number of an anniversary. Summer 1959 was a huge summer for Disneyland, and this special was not only a vehicle to promote the new attractions, but the ever growing progress of Disneyland.

Was debating to post the original The Disneyland Story, since it wasn't really an anniversary special but the premiere of the television series that originally aired back on 27th of October, 1954. Hosted by Walt Disney, shares with viewers his special project, Disneyland, and what's to come. So, here's part 1.

    Well done.
Thanks for your work in gathering them and putthing them all in one place. If you carefully listen to the 35th Anniversary show you can hear Harold howling at various points. For some reason, I really miss that now.

That's not even the complete 10th Anniversary special.

Shame it just seems to be that one clip out there though.

Re: Disneyland Anniversary TV specials of the past.

The 30th and 35th specials are easily the best, and it's downright disheartening that Disney refused to make a special for DL's 50th. (though one can argue the Steve Martin film makes up for it)

The 30th has wonderful musical numbers, and an emotionally-overwhelming finale, while the 35th is cute and humorous, filled with comedic vignettes that epitomize the playful and somewhat sly and coy direction WDI was heading in with their attractions at the time.

I really wish they do another for the 60th in 2015, as I know they get almost all of their theme park synergy taken care of with the WDW Xmas parade, but I miss Disney advertising the parks in such an innovative fashion. Plus, you can include DCA as it will most likely not be an embarrassment by then.

I LOVE those old shows -- especially the 30th and 35th. Thank you for posting all of these! I adored them as a kid and still do.

There was also another special from the 80's that was a lot of fun called Disneyland's Summer Vacation Party. Basically covered a Grad Night and features an eclectic mix from Brenda Lee to Oingo Boingo. Hosted by some young actors at the time, among them Facts of Life's Mindy Cohn and Kim Fields.

Re: Disneyland Anniversary TV specials of the past.

Not only anniversary specials, Disney used to make all sorts of specials that really got you excited about that aspect of Disneyland. "Disneyland After Dark" is a good example of this as it showed off the park at night. When they released "Disneyland: Secrets, Stories, and Magic", we, as fans, were definitely treated to hearing from people who were part of the park's history (like Rod Miller and the late Bruce Gordon). While we didn't get top celebrities performing musical numbers, other content like the Golden Horseshoe Revue and "People and Places: Disneyland USA" were a real treat! Sigh, if only Disney could make a special again.

I loved that show! While WDW had the majority of the episodes, DL had a lot to show off for just one little park. Indy was of course spotlighted and the Electrical Parade got its own episode as it was "glowing away 'forever'". I remember even Brianne Leary conquering the Disneyland Mountain Range. George Forman usually got more humorous segments. I remember George piloting Monorail Red around WDW, getting lost, and pulling into Tomorrowland Station.

I remember when the 35th anniversary special aired. I still have my VHS copy of when I taped it off the Disney channel. It's still my favorite from all the Disneyland specials I have seen thus far. I wish the Disney Channel made more Disney parks TV specials.

I'll check out the other videos you posted. I love watching Disneyland related specials.
