    disneylands official opening date

It's that time of year again when the ageless debate of disneylands official opening date gets started again

    so without hesitation

    HERE WE GO

To me Disneylands opening date is July 17th and heres my reasons for it... July 17th is the first day that people got to experience the park reguardless if it was for press or not it was the first time that people were admited inside, to me it doesn't make sense that walt would open the gates on July 17th and then on July 18th and call that day "opening day"... another reason why July 17th should be opening day is because thats the day the park was dedicated.. I will let the debate begin from here

I think Darkbeer was the main advocate around here for July 18. I never agreed with him on this, but he certainly made a case for it.

I miss Darkbeer. I hope he comes back soon.

Well .. even though 'July 17th' has been en-grained into our brains .... July 18th is the day it was open to the public.

July 17th was the day for "invited guests".

So it was like when a baby is born the first people who get to see it are family. Then the rest of the world gets to see it. That doesn't make the day the rest of the world gets to see it the birthday.

For me it is July 17th.

But it is all a point of view.

Not true. By your own criterion, July 4, 1955, the day of the "Penthouse Party," is the first official day that the Park welcomed guests--even though they were studio employees.

Disneyland official media used the July 18th date for about ten years before they arbitrarily decided to change. In fact, on Sunday, July 18, 1965, Walt Disney himself presided over a banquet at the Diseyland Hotel, noted in the August-September "The Disney World" as the "high point" of Disneyland's Tencennial, "the salubrious tenth birthday evening," to hand out ten-year service awards to about 120 early CMs.

The never ending debate returns. No one changes their mind, it's just a endless cycle over and over again. I don't see the need for this debate again. So I won't debate and won't tell you why it should be which date, but instead will tell you which day I celebrate the birthday on. With that, July 17th is the date for me, cause that's the date that means the most to me. I'm a sentimental guy and the 17th is the most sentimental to me.

I believe July 17th, just because that was the day that everything was in place (for the most part...kinda sorta...) and EVERYONE got to watch the dedication from the parks or at home.

July 17th, 1955. My personal opening date was October 1959, according to Mom. She can't remember the exact date.

I agree with this. The 17th was not opening day. You had to be invited to go...it was not open for everyone. To me the 18th is opening day...where anyone could go no restrictions.

Walt used the 18th..then that's good enough for me.

I guess the corporation changed to the 17th and we all know corporate decisions are always right.....

Yes but wasn't the large majority of guests people who weren't invited? i.e., they had forged tickets, or were backstaged, or climbed over the fence?
