re: Disneyland - Old Photos and Ephemera Thread

I don't post on this forum much but am an avid Micechat reader for a couple years now. After a trip to Disneyland last year and seeing all the changes that have happened in my short 28 years, I was beginning to feel a bit old at the Happiest Place on earth. But seeing all of these great images of changes waaaayy before my time makes me smile and feel young all over again!

Thank you so much for the time and effort of posting. Please keep 'em coming...this is the best thing I've read all day!

More goodies are wanted, and so they shall appear!

Very eerie and atmospheric postcard for the Matterhorn at night. Does anyone know if they really lit it like this at some point, or was it "doctored" for the postcard?

The keelboat Bertha Mae travels past what I believe to be part of Cascade Peak.

A Ken Andersen sketch for the original "Ghost House" planned for Disneyland, before it morphed into the Haunted Mansion

A 1964 aerial view of the park's west side. Parking lot still intact, and you can see the massive steel infrastructure for Pirates underway, as well as the completed front building of HM with only empty land behind the train bridge and berm. Over in Frontierland, the little mining town of Rainbow Ridge still is in a circle, and you can see the painted desert beyond towards the far rear right of the photo.

Ah, ok. I have a guide book for Walt Disney World from 1978 I was thinking of posting, but I can save that for elsewhere.

    Keep up the great posts!

Fantasyland from an unknown specific date, likely late 1950's.
I was looking at this pic and was pondering something... is the carousel on the same footprint? Or was it pushed back slightly when the Teacups were relocated?

That one, cannot answer 100 percent for certain, but it does look wedged in between the two "wings" of the dark ride buildings. It may certainly have gotten more breathing room in the big 1983 refurb.

I believe it says in The Nickel Tour that the carousel was moved to where the tea cups had been to open up the entrance of Fantasyland.

I love the old aerial photos of the park!

re: Disneyland - Old Photos and Ephemera Thread

Thank you all for the continuing comments! I have yet another post of stuff to share, heh, as people are still looking...

Unknown store in Bear Country, likely part of what is now the main Pooh store/complex opposite Splash Mountain

Personal photo of mine, taken while the Teacups were down for a refurb.

Imagineers Tony Baxter, John D. Stone and Bruce Gordon pose inside the under-construction Splash Mountain.

Rather fuzzy and vague nighttime shot of the HM from a park guidebook in the seventies.

Very nice detail shot of the "main room" of the Swiss Family Treehouse

    As always, hope you enjoyed!
