The Motor Boat Cruise was one of the few places inside the Park boundries where there were no prying cameras. Likewise, about 3/5's of the way towards the Autopia track, and on the return side there was a area of near total darkness that permitted a moment of undetected un-Disneylandlike behavior.

What's amazing about this picture is that everything in it is now gone. The Viewliner, the Skyway, the Space Bar, the Astro Jets, the original version of the Autopia... even the small lagoon at the left, where the Phantom Boats were, was replaced by the Submarine lagoon. I think that the Autopia track was extended after this picture was taken. The eucalyptus trees outside the park are long gone too.

In the first one showing Main Street station that's a great shot of the original 'combine' car just behind the coal tender that I and my fellow Carolwood Pacific members have recently purchased for permanent display at the Disney Barn in Griffith Park!
What a beautiful place that Disneyland was!
    Thanks Regions.

Ah, you are a Carolwood member also? My father is and I've been to a few of the events (Ward Kimball auction benefit at Club 33, Animation archives tour). I didn't know the group had bought another one of the cars...good deal.

....oh. Yes I guess that does kind of ruin the magic, but then I'd be dumb if I thought that Disneyland made their own Coca-Cola too.

Pfft! That hardly ruins the magic. All you have to do is suspend your dis-belief and imagine that the Main Street Bakery is sending out a load of baked goods in a really futuristic vehicle.

Stuff like this enhances the magic for me. Somewhere in the back of my mind I know this kind of activity happens on a nightly basis, and yet 99% of the time my consciousness is completely unaware of that reality. That to me, is magic.
As to dating the photo, I figure 1970's. that's not one of the yellow and dark brown) or later dark brown and yellow) license plates on that truck, but one of the later yellow on blue plates that were in use before the currently in use white ones. figure from 1969-70 up into the early 1980's.
As always, thanks for sharing Regions!

The other thing that picture reminded of? Where the Gibson Girl is now used to be the home of the Sunkist Citrus House. If you look above the main entrance you can still see the outline of the original Sunkist logo. Happy hunting!
