Disneyland Resort CMs get the pay raise.

Most cast members can celebrate but the hotel workers union deal is still in limbo. All the info here: Disney approves raises for 4,000 workers | approves, disney, raises - News - The Orange County Register

Glad to hear (about cm's raise). As far as hotel, shame on those unions convincing those workers that they should strike so long and make them think they should get totally free healthcare (paying a very small percentage is better than none). Be happy you have a job. 42% of Americans don't.

Sorry to be argumentative, here, but 42%?! Where do you get that figure?

According to this, the US unemployment rate (for those in the labor force) is about 9.6%. It shows that here in California, the rate is higher at 12.2%, but that's still a lot lower than what you wrote. Now, those figures may not be 100% accurate, but I've never heard or read, anywhere, that the US unemployment figure was anywhere near as high as 42%. If you have a good information source to back up that figure, please share it.

Re: Disneyland Resort CMs get the pay raise.

Since 1948, the highest the unemployment rate has gone was Nov and Dec 1982 when it hit 10.8% (national average). Local city and state figures will be higher and lower than the national average. Even during the great depression it only went as high as 24.9%.

42% unemployment means that 2 out of every 5 people are unemployed. We are nowhere near that. Currently we are at 9.5%. 9 out of every 100.

As of July 2010, Nevada has the highest unemployment at 14.3% and North Dakota has the lowest at 3.6%.

Hyperbole, folks. It's a useful and fun communication tool.

Congrats to the CMs for the raise!

Re: Disneyland Resort CMs get the pay raise.

The company and Workers United Local 50 reached an agreement on a five-year contract, the longest in the unions history at the park. Those employees will receive between 3 and 3.5 percent raises over that time.
That is IT? So if you make 10 dollars an hour over the next FIVE years you will get a 35 cent raise? Roughly 7 cents an hour, for a year raise, really? That is not so good. Having people skills is really not a value in this country, is it? (sarcasm) I guess that is why I have NONE.. ha ha ha

    Those CM's deserve WAY more.

3 - 3.5% over the next 5 years? hallelujah! Thats a little under 40 cents per hour, or $16 per 40 hour week.(Most part time CM's don't get 40 hours - more like 15 or 20) If I was the union or a Disney employee I wouldn't exactly be celebrating. The typical CM pays about $28 per month in dues, if the union wants to get the CM's a raise they could cut dues down a bit and celebrate more. Geeez, what is the union really doing?

    On the news.
It was an overall percentage of all Americans that can work.
    Not just one state.

My brother got a .05 cent raise at Del Taco this year. I think he'd rather have the .40 cent raise. They probably make similar wages.

It's about time they got some kind of raise! If it were up to Disney though, the CM's would be left high and dry.
