Hey guys, I'm in LA at the moment and thinking of going to DL. The only difference is that it would be alone. I've gone alone before, but it's just not the same. Do you think I should go alone tomorrow or wait until December to go with family?
If you've got an annual pass, take advantage of it and do both! If not...I personally would wait, simply because I prefer going with people at this point in my life. But I've also been to the park alone, even quite recently, and it can be a rewarding experience in a different way.
Really, it's up to you. If you can't decide...pick one on a whim, let the decision rattle around in your brain for a day or two, and if you're happy with it by then, stick with it!
Heck, both is what I'm doing. I'll be in LA for work next week, so I extended through the weekend to solo the lands. I invited my wife, but due to the slightly shortened schedule and the slight possibility of work on the weekend, we decided to go in October as well, on a "normal" vacation.
Working under the assumption that you can just do one and not the other:
I say go alone. I'm a social guy but I love the parks by myself. I never feel weird, out of place, or lonely. I can do what I want, when I want, and just truly enjoy the moment. When you're with other people there's that constant need to get on rides that we all get into, but when your by yourself ... the observations and moments you can make appreciate the place and being there are so much more plentiful.
The family thing though, has other considerations: it is a trip you've already committed to? Is it a family tradition in December? Or a trip or a "chance to get the whole family together" that never happens? If so, you better may be off avoiding those issues and going with them. A trip alone isn't great if you're going to be feeling guilty and having to deal with letting someone in your family down.
Assuming that you can only go once, I say wait. I know that there are people who do go to Disneyland alone, but I'd say only do that if you were an AP holder. IF Disneyland is more of a special once in a while trip going with friends and family would be more fun and worth your wait!
I know your feelings because I was thinking the same thing since I just moved to SoCal and shrunk my once 6 hour away distance to 1 hour. I'm going with my family in December (and getting my AP then!!!) and I wanted to go earlier but had no one to go with and was debating going alone. But I have decided to wait, just to build my anticipation and excitment : ) plus I'm a poor college student who would be set back $76 bucks just for entrance.
Hidden Mickey - Historical fiction about Walt that mixes action and mystery with time travel and fantasy! Tweens to adults will enjoy these novels. And now, three gamebooks to play in Disneyland, DCA and WDW Magic Kingdom!
Check out my six action/adventure novels about Walt's lost diary and his epic quest. Visit my blog page!
I say both. You could do whatever you want to do in Disneyland when your not with anyone else (Example: If you want to try to see the DCA progress and your friend wants to do Toy Story Mania). And December would be good too. Holiday season, DCA expansion, good time of the year at Disney.
