My personal wish - Miyazaki themed ride

If I was going to be able to select the theme for a new ride at Disneyland, I'd have to go with a Miyazaki movie. I know it's not Disney per say - they just distribute the official dubs in the US. Still, I'd love to see something kind of like Soaring over California, but perhaps riding with Totoro, riding on the waves with Ponyo, flying with Kiki or Porco Rosso.

Of course, it's merely an idle dream. Not only would Disney have to have an agreement with Studio Ghibli, and not only would such a ride have to be well executed and not botched - but there would have to be enough folks familiar with the work! Not that it stopped Splash Mountain…

Alas that some of his best known films for western audiences are ones like Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, which probably aren't the best ones to base a ride on.

I'd rather see some of the classic Disney films (overlooked) get in the park first.

Hmm, like Oswald the Lucky Rabbit? Bedknobs and Broomsticks? Actually, a flying bed ride might be fun…

But yeah, just my personal preference. I'd love to hit the Studio Ghibli Museum in Japan, but that would require me making it to Japan first.

Thats a spirited idea! (Couldn't resist) I think the stories and concepts for the Miyazaki films are so fantastical that they would make great attractions.

I dunno, I think Spirited Away might be a little dark for many kids. Howls, that I could see.

perhaps. i could see Yubaba scaring little kids, lol. but isn't that fun at Disneyland? areas on pirates, haunted mansion, and even the exploding cake in alice in wonderland used to frighten me as a kid. but those memories were fun! lol.

it would be cool to see Princess Mononoke, with out A****aka's arrows decapitating soldiers of course, lol.

Ditto. Plus I think Miyazaki is very protective of his works and I think he prefers having some things exclusive to Japan only.

Though if he werent, I would prefer to see this type of thing in Epcot's Japan pavilion. Do you know how many people would kill for a Totoro meet n greet?!

Chanfan, his might be the best idea I've ever read on Miceage! Thank you!
It could be trippy and beautiful.

A ride doesn't have to be based on one movie.
I'd like to go on something like "Miyazaki's Fantasy World" with creatures from many of his movies and maybe some new ones, and a beginning, middle, and end. Rides based on a movies have a dozen or so scenes and can come off like too-short, half-a--ed versions of the films, despite the immersive advantages of rides. Many of Disney's best rides have been original experiences, and Miyazaki is one of the most original artists in the history of animation. And Disney already has a relationship with him.

This would fit in well at Tokyo Disneyland. (Miyazaki is most popular in Japan.) I would trust the Japanese to do a great job with this--from what I've seen of their superior Pooh ride. If they build this and add a Soarin' Over Japan attraction, I'll visit Toyko again--if I can afford it.

Gah, I've no idea why Tokyo Disneyland didn't even occur to me. Probably because it's easier for me to get to Disneyland in CA.
