Flynn's at DCA - The Games

Didn't see a list of games detailed on other threads, so I thought I would throw up some images of the games that are currently in Flynn's arcade. Plus some misc ElecTRONica images...

I was expecting a larger portion of the old eatery to be used for games, but I guess they didn't think it was necessary to go overboard with retro games. I was disappointed that there was only ONE TRON game deployed. I still remember the Starcade with 5 - 10 lined side by side.

I don't think the game "Space Paranoids" (below) is a retro and didn't have time to look at the gameplay screen. Since it has "Recognizers" in the artwork, I am assuming this is a tie in to the movie.

See how many of these RETRO games you can remember.....

    LOL!!! Nice one.

I have hours of memories of my dad and I playing Joust on our Atari 800. I'm taking the parents to the parks next week. That's it, dad, it's on!!

GOOD GAME SELECTION...man I wish I lived in CA not NY...otherwise I would be there. And I'm not even from the 80s but I love the games.

I recognized 11. I probably only played about 4 of those though. I was not a huge arcade fan.

I'm amazed they found so many awesome games in what looks like great condition.

Is it true the wall behind the tron game opens up to reveal a secret room every 30 mins?

Not quite all period appropriate... but its great to see a Coin-Op arcade in there at all.. so I'll be happy with that.

Space Paranoids is the game Kevin Flynn made in the movie. For the ComicCon events, they made a playable version of the game to put in the Arcade. It was not a released game back then.

By period appropriate.. to give you an example... APB was from 1987.. Whirlwind is from 1990.

But I'm glad to see an arcade get so much love.

The later is what they did at ComicCon the first time they put this on. It revealed the area where they had Concept Art, and the lightcycle. At this year ComicCon, they had the End of Line bar setup behind it along with the set showing Kevin's office. I don't think they do the hidden room in the DCA setup..

As for old games, there are many many collections where you can still find mint collections of games. People still restore them, etc. Unfortunately the 'multi-game' cabinet has killed most of the value of the market for all but the most collectable games, but the real fans still have many thousands of these games.

Yeah I had thought about that, but as someone who owns a classic pinball machine, I would never let that many people get their hands all over it... maybe for the right price

But thankfully some people more generous than myself (hah!) have provided some real winners for this event.

Speaking of pinballs, is there only one at Flynn's???

Yes... Only one pinball at Flynn's and it wasn't being treated very nice. While I was playing Mr. Do!, I noticed some younger folks abusing the machine, intentionally trying to TILT it. When they finally did TILT it, they walked away and the CAST member didn't know what to do (eg, reset via power switch on back panel) and just put a OUT of ORDER sign on the glass.

There was also a Fooseball (spelling?) table which didn't seem like it had enough space.

Wowza, I can't wait to go!
All this has happened before, and it will all happen again. But this time it happened in London. It happened on a quiet street in Bloomsbury. That corner house over there is the home of the Darling family. And Peter Pan chose this particular house because there were people here who believed in him.

Re: Flynn's at DCA - The Games

Just goes to show that great games, no matter what format will always be popular. Arcade games from the 80s and 90s were some of the most well put together. They had stories and characters you could care about in all their 8 and 16 bit glory.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter
