Question Should Flynn's Arcade Replace the Starcade?

From the Theme, to the look, to the coins to even the games Flynn's Arcade looks to be a better fit in Disneyland than the Starcade.

So does anyone but me want to see The Arcade moved from DCA (once ElecTRONica is done) to Disneyland???

Here is a video of the arcade
YouTube - ElecTRONica Opening Night: Part 5: Flynn's Arcade (HD)

Also it would be cool if they made the second story of the Arcade into a Tron Meet and Greet/store (why not use the space)

Not Flynn's the arcade (why do we have an 80s arcade in Tomorrowland?) but having the End of Line bar or another aspect of the digital world of Tron would be cool.

I would love to see Flynn's replace the arcades in Tomorrowland in both Disneyland and Disney World.
    disney world: 24
contemporary, polynesian, caribbean beach, dolphin, wilderness lodge, dixie landings, port orleans

    disneyland: 2
next trip: september 2009 @ the disneyland hotel

You could have both. In fact, I think in a couple years that will likely happen. One doesn't rule out the other. If they construct a TRON attraction in the Captain EO building you could exit through Flynn's Arcade and right next to it you could get food at a End of the Line bar.

Re: Should Flynn's Arcade Replace the Starcade?

It's funny, but now that I've been inside Flynn's arcade at DCA, the idea of it inside the Starcade location doesn't seem right. Starcade seems tucked away and hidden, while Flynn's arcade should be an easy-to-find beacon that you see from a distance and draw you in, as it does in the original TRON movie being located on a street corner with the large neon sign and like it does currently in the back of the Hollywood Studios Backlot. Plus I agree with flynnibus about the notion of an 80's era arcade not the right message inside Tomorrowland.

Seems like they'll have to remove Flynn's arcade in the Spring to use that building to host Food & Wine Festival events again. Perhaps Disney takes a cue from the popularity of Flynn's and add some TLC to the Starcade, be it making over the interior/exterior a bit, adding music or other dramatic theatrics, and reintroducing or re-opening it in April to draw arcade game fans there. Then when the Food & Wine Festival's over, hopefully Disney will bring back Flynn's at nighttime (having a TRON attraction play in daylight doesn't seem right for me either), assuming they'll have some GlowFest-style evening rave event there on a regular basis.

But why would you want both?

Why replace one mistake with another? Why do we want a dedicated coin op arcade in tomorrowland in the first place?

This thread is pretensed on 'we already have an arcade, lets make it better!' where I'm saying 'Lets not have an arcade in TL at all'

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Re: Should Flynn's Arcade Replace the Starcade?

I'm gonna say no thanks. I would fully support the addition of some TRON elements to Tomorrowland, but Flynn's arcade wouldn't do it for me because it's intentionally so rooted in the 80s. That makes it wonderful for evoking nostalgia, particularly in people who played the games back then, but there's nothing about it that offers an optimistic, exciting vision of our future. If the Starcade must stay an arcade, I would love to see a total redo, with unique, cutting-edge games and an appropriately futuristic overall aesthetic.

^^ What Flynn and Data said.

imagination or art. All you need is a brand."

Re: Should Flynn's Arcade Replace the Starcade?

The way I see it the Starcade needs to go. I really don't understand why there is one at an amusement park.
Parent:"Hey look at all these rides kids! We can ride Pirates, Space Mountai--"
    Kids: "Guitar hero!"
    Parent: *Facepalm*

Videogame technology has gotten to the point where it has matched or surpassed the arcade in many ways. Add to that most homes with children have at least one system and most of the games in the Starcade already have a home counter part (Guitar Hero, DDR). My point is that it seems silly to me to pay $80+ to go and play something you already have at home. I say close the Starcade!

Re: Should Flynn's Arcade Replace the Starcade?

I have no problem with the property having an 'outlet' that isn't the main attractions in the park. So an arcade in DL is fine.. it just needs to be embedded and done in a method that matches DL itself.

So kids running off to play video games for awhile.. no biggie. Putting a 80s retro arcade themed to... and 80s arcade... in TL doesn't work for me. Now you could come up with ways of making video games work.. but it wouldn't be Flynns.

Games can be futuristic and not necessarily clash.. like the ones they have at the end of Mission Space and Spaceship Earth.

I'd prefer a sci fi theme.. even tied to the Tron universe.. for a gaming environment in TL.

I would prefer Flynn's over what is there now, but I'd prefer a new non-arcade attraction over both.

I was thinking an actual attraction should go in the Starcade building. Horizons anyone?
