Wow, things do change. When I worked for the mouse on Main St. during the 80's our paychecks were handed out every week on the little patio above the restrooms. Most of the time the door to the apartment was wide open and you were welcome to walk in and check it out, but NO pictures since it was considered backstage.

Thank you so much for posting these, I have always wondered what it looked like! So fun! :)
Also, I have a Disneyland Blog (it's very small) and would love to post some of these photos and link back to this post- would that be ok? (my blog is believe-in-the-magic.blogspot.com)

that is so awesome. it's funny because i think that's the same set of stairs/same door that i went into for a food & beverage survey? to think...if i had only known. that's one thing i want to do at disney on my 50th birthday. i have 8 years to make it happen!
Re: Walt's Apartment - A rare opportunity for a private tour - lots of pics
Aw... I wanted to see the stairs... oh well...
How much of the stuff in the apartment is really from the time when Walt lived there?
Re: Walt's Apartment - A rare opportunity for a private tour - lots of pics
Not much.
Comparing these photos with photos from Walt's time show that all the lamps and wall hangings (pictures) are different, the carpet is different and virtually all of the furniture is different. Much of the original furniture is now in the hands of the Walt Disney Family Museum.
About the only things that *might* still be from Walt's day are the sofa beds.
Re: Walt's Apartment - A rare opportunity for a private tour - lots of pics
Early in 2005, with all the rain storms, there was a leak in the roof, and they ended up replacing the carpeting. The same carpet used to recarpet Walt's Apt in 2005, was also used to recarpet the Lilly Belle.
Oh, tell about the multiple nozzles in Walt's shower . . . .
As for the original furnishings, Mrs. Disney did take many of the original items, but Disney attempted to replace with items as similar as possible. I wonder if those original items are on display at the Disney Museum. . . .

In our Adventures by Disney tour, they specifically pointed out that the phonograph and large musicbox in the apartment were the actual ones that Walt gave to Lillian as presents. I seem to remember that the sandwich maker was original as well.

Thanks for sharing those great pictures! Never knew about that lamp in the window before, but now I'm going to look for it everytime I walk by the Fire Station.

Congrats on attaining your Disney "holy grail!" Very cool and thank you for sharing. I too have attained my Disney holy grail the summer before last. To this day I cannot put into words the thoughts/feelings/emotions experienced, but I tell you what, those pics are worth a thousand words and some!
