DCA Tile Murals and CALIFORNIA Letters to be Reused

Al has a bit of news for us on the giant DCA entry mural and CALIFORNIA letters. While I was no great fan of either, it is nice to know that Disney has found a way of recycling them instead of completely trashing them.

Editor's Note 11/29: Are you already missing DCA's big tile entrance murals? They won't be gone too long, as the tiles are all being carefully saved for later use. The plan is to grind them up to be used in terrazzo flooring over at the remodeled Disneyland Hotel by 2012. The California letters out front have about a month left before they go, but they'll also be saved for a second life in another Anaheim location yet to be determined. - Al Lutz

It would seem out of place to try and find somewhere to put it because one they are gone, I can only think of them over outside the front of DCA, so I think Disney is kind of screwed about this situation.

As an international visitor the letters were one of the "must things" to get a photo taken in front of, so I'll be disappointed to see them removed.

Maybe Disney should donate the California letters to the state. Perhaps they can be placed in the park area surrounding the state Capitol building in Sacramento.

The letters were sooooo ugly, Ill just be happy when they are off Disney property.

ahh i love the letters it really sets this park from others it'll be sad when they come down they should leave them and build the new entry further back where the originals are at.

I've always had a soft spot for the letters, but a lot of that is youthful nostalgia... those letters are very beckoning when you're young and you don't know what's beyond them! So I'm glad they're finding a second life... my ideal home for them is to have the letters scattered throughout Downtown Disney, spelling California as you walk away from the hotel and toward the parks.

The tile mural I've never felt strongly one way or another, but their plan to reuse the tile seems fitting. All I know is the entrance to DCA looks so much cleaner and more open without the tile there... it really looks like a different park already!

Maybe they should hide the letters in different places in the DLR.. That would be fun. :P

I seriously doubt that the letters would be relevant in whatever theme (likely Marvel themed) Disney comes up with for the 3rd park.

Someone else suggested that Disney donate them to the state. I think that would be a lovely idea. But they'll probably end up decorating GardenWalk after Disney buys it.

The letters are (regardless whether you agree or not) pretty iconic not only of the resort, but just in itself. I'm shocked how beloved they are, but yeah, it's nice to hear that they're moving somewhere else in Anaheim. Probably in front of Angel Stadium or maybe Gardenwalk, either way, I'm glad that they'll continue to exist to be an icon for years to come.

I might be alright with them on the interstate as you drive in from Nevada, Arizona or Oregon though.

The Letter are one the mot poplar things at DCA, more than some of the rides I always see people taking pictures on/near them from 8 AM-11 PM sad to see them go and be put in the ground, I would be cool if they were added Near/in the Pool at the Grand California make more sense thematically.

they're going to create a mini sunshine plaza area near Paradise Pier hotel... :B
