    Buried Alive!

    From the Lagoon of Liquidspaceman...
My family and I are getting ready to make a trip to Disneyland (it's been 7 long years since our last time)! As I'm reading all I can, I stumbled upon an app for my EVO, called Mousewait. As I was absorbing all the material, I came across a great video highlighting Nature's Wonderland. (The video is all the way at the bottom of the page). In it, the gentleman mentions that when Disney was building Thunder Mountain, they decided to bulldoze over all the animals in a certain area! Yikes! They were BURIED ALIVE! I find this bit of news fascinating. Does anybody know where this took place, now that Thunder Mountain has replaced Nature's Wonderland?

Not every single AA was buried, but some were buried around where Big Thunder Ranch is now.

    Re: Buried Alive!

Yep. Some of the animals are at both Disneyland and Disney World's Big Thunder but some of them are buried in what is currently the Big Thunder Ranch. The Big Thunder Ranch is built on the ground the Living Desert and the Devil's Mudpots were. You can find evidence of this by the rock formations that cover the area that are left from Nature's Wonderland. They also left over 2 caves with one lake that used to be Bear Country in front of one. It was 1976-77 they remade the area into Big Thunder. The picture of the crashed train in your starting post used to be one of the mine trains from Nature's Wonderland. It was located on a grassy area across from Tom Sawyer's Island and could only be seen on the Columbia and Mark Twain on the Rivers of America. Recently, the Rivers of America was refurbished and the train was removed and I believ they are trying to restore it to it's original condition. That or it is sitting in a warehouse or even worse a land fill.

    Re: Buried Alive!

I do believe the wrecked train was salvaged by the Disney Archives, who wanted to save it from oblivion. So it's in good hands now.

Cascade Peak was bulldozed in 1998 after years of water damage.

Well I do love the history of Disney Parks. I swear I know every attraction that ever existed at Disneyland and Disney World.

I also believe it is not just the animals but a whole section of the Living Desert is buried under there. There are are rumors that the ground sunk down so all Disney had to do was fill it with dirt, layer it in concrete, and build the Big Thunder Ranch. This theory seems to have some proof because in the Big Thunder Ranch there is a small cave half buried in the ground with metal bars added onto it left over from Nature's Wonderland.

6:22 the cave in that picture is the one I was talking about.

Here are the caves left over from Nature's Wonderland. The first one is across the lake that was formerly Bear Country. The second is left of that and closer to you. It is boarded up because people went in there and did some non-Disney friendly things in there:

    Great links CaptainEO,ATIS!
Those pictures remind me of a company that makes custom 5" scale steam engines. One of them could be modified to be the engine used in Nature's Wonderland.
