I also have over 400 pages of notes with additional text and nine cans of film with footage from all years at the Hotel. One can is over an hour and one half in length and another over an hour. Now, if I could just find the time to get this information together. This next edition will be awesome. In my find are groundbreaking pictures from 1955 which I am sure have not been seen since 1955. Also over 125 new ones from the official opening day in August of 1956. Time!! I need time!!!

Thanks, Don!! I love your book so much and am looking forward to future editions. I took your book around with me one afternoon at the Disneyland Hotel back in September to compare and contrast. It was a little hard with all of the construction walls, but still a great experience. I miss the original Disneyland Hotel so much. It was always, to me, one of the most awesome hotels ever.

Thank you so much for the kind words. The rewrite I am working on will contain so much more information and new (old) photographs. I would say it will at least triple in size of the original book. Maybe even more. It's just hard to find time to work on it.

Re: Disneyland Hotel Early 60's Photos

Ready for some more pictures? I have some neat ones depicting the Wrather family at the Disneyland Hotel or at Disneyland Park. Hope you enjoy these!

This first picture was used for the Wrather family Christmas Card in 1959.

Next we have Jack Wrather and son Chrsitopher (whom I would guess to be around 4 or 5 in this picture) enjoying the Peter Pan attraction at Disneyland. This is either 1957 or 1958.

How about a couple of group shots of the Wrather family on a Disneyland Hotel guest cart?

And last, how about a picture of Jack & Bonita enjoying the Peter Pan attraction?

    Thanks for looking.

Thanks, Don! For those of us who, like you, loved the Disneyland Hotel in its heyday, the family pictures are telling -- the spirit of those photos was everywhere in the DLH during its Wrather years. The change when their company sold it to Disney was palpable.

Disney may have finally found the grail. You don't need
imagination or art. All you need is a brand."

Gosh I miss the old hotel - your pics always bring back many memories...can't wait to see more! And yes, I remember the pedal boats - a great diversion for my dad and I during afternoon breaks from the park!

Re: Disneyland Hotel Early 60's Photos

As if these 600 pictures were not enough, I also just got back some film I had converted to DVD......I am actually speechless of its contents. I will grab some stills of them and post them here. One starts off in Disneyland, jumps on a Hotel tram then takes you for a grand tour of the Disneyland Hotel from 1957 going into places I have never before seen at the Disneyland Hotel. It also has sound so you can hear the host telling you where you are at. Another DVD features a never before seen interview with Walt Disney at the Hotel and also features Fess Parker, the Mouseketeers, the Wrather family and tons of dignitaries and celebrities.

Re: Disneyland Hotel Early 60's Photos

OK here we go with some new pics from the videos. Please bear with me on these as I am new to editing these and enhancing these. This is still images from 16mm film converted to DVD. Some may be blurry and they are all fairly low resolution. Nonetheless, these are some pretty neat shots. These are all from summer 1959 when the Matterhorn, Monorail and Submarine Voyage were all less than one month old.

The parking lot with Matterhorn Mountain in the distance.

Look at those cool cars in the parking lot!

    Special VIP entrance for passholders.

    Now that's a cool banner!

I am going to capture some more still images from the other movies and will post shortly.

I would love to see the early photos of the Disneyland Hotel. Seventeen years ago I worked at the hotel and have wonderful memories of that time.
