    Disneyland Hotel Early 60's Photos

Here are some great 1961-1963 color shots from the Disneyland Hotel.

The Olympic Size Pool was a great place to get that California tan! Note that this pic was taken just prior to the addition of the Embassy & Magnolia Ballrooms addition in 1961-62.

This one above is really cool because it also has an LA Airways helicopter flying above the Tower Building. This photo was taken less than 4 months after the original first Tower at the Disneyland Hotel opened.

This is the shopping area of the Disneyland Hotel. Note the KEZY sign which was an actual radio station broadcasting from the Disneyland Hotel, AM 1190.

At first glance, this looks like the picture used on the postcard widely seen. However, this Monorail is Monorail Blue not Monorail Red like on the postcard. The cars are also different in the parking lot but the sign is identical.

Hope you enjoy these pictures and they bring back some memories from the World's Most Exciting Hotel.

As a matter of fact, I do have more....almost 600 new ones that I just found and had never seen before. And that coming from a guy who has over 5000 photos from the Disneyland Hotel.

How I miss the old Disneyland Hotel, the look stayed well into the 80s when I was a kid, of course with some add on's, etc. I'm sure every Disneyland buff here knows about these cool Disneyland nostalgia sites too...

Thank you so much. My wife and I stayed there for the first time in Oct 1969. It was quite magical. Not so much, now.

Thanks for the great photos, Don! For fans of 60's So Cal radio, Don's magicalhotel.com also has a great photo of KMPC's Dick Whittinghill visiting KEZY's Disneyland Hotel studio (see the "Fun Stuff" page on Don's site). There's more info on KEZY "the mighty 1190" here and here. And if I recall, MiceChat's own Radiobarry has some memories of KEZY as well.

Thanks for the old photos! It's hard to believe that it was only a little over 10 years ago that the the olympic size swimming pool, the old monorail station, and the old shopping district "disappeared".

As cool as the DTD area now looks, I still miss the Hotel of old. Got some very vivid memories of the place. Thanks for posting these and PLEASE post more.
