^we'll we kinda knew that when they were talking the ride way that one day (soonish) we would get a ride, my problem is just how much it is just soo plain even compared to Paradise Park added last summer.

Lets hope they do add some stiff to it before summer...cause I want Disney to do good...I have no reason to hate what they do unless I just really think its cheap or just plain bad.

The problem is that this park is going to be seen by a lot of guests, most of which won't know that it is a placeholder until something else comes in 5-10+ years. Instead, guests will pass by the giant cement grave of a former attraction with some trees planted around it and a couple benches. It will appear like that is the final product to the majority of guests. And that's an ugly picture to paint for guests.
To be honest, I think you're just thinking too hard about this. I'm not trying to take away your opinion of the park, you've actually seen it with your own eyes, I havent and probably wont anytime in the near future. But again, we are just more involved in this than the average customer.

And I could agree with you more they MIGHT be harder on it if it wasnt for the fact TLM will be up and running that will draw most peoples attention. Or the fact the food court that WILL look very nice from we seen so far and a few hundred feet from this area will be open in a few months. And a year from now, when BVS and CL opens creating the true massive changes and high quality themed areas for the park, I seriously doubt a very small area in the far corner of the park that is really just be a smoking area, is going to be all that influential. I'm NOT suggesting just because its small they should cheap out on it nor am I saying that guest wont notice the lack of quality compared to other areas of the park. What I AM saying is majority will weigh all the other expansive areas of the park and will see for what it basically is: a small smoking/sitting area. Because its a smoking area most will bypass it regardless (one of the things I do love about Cali after living in Asia for so long lol). But I dont see people making grand sweeping judgements about DCA because of this area. In fact what I do see is most guest will be more focused on the bigger things and wont care at all about it. They will pass it by the same way people pass by most of this stuff in these parks.

I promise I'm going to stop saying this because I'm starting to repeat myself like Charlie Sheen lol, but big picture people!! You keep saying how this can be a stain for the next 5-10 years, but do you have any idea how much of DCA as a whole could change 5-10 years from now? Hell, think back what DCA use to look like just 5-10 years ago...yeah. We dont know, but I'm going to give DCA some credit and think it can only get better from this point on and not worse. I know this is the internet and a Disney board and this is what people do, but lets not overthink it. Its a little sitting area in a little patch of land. I'm not telling you or anyone not to hate it or think its ugly, but in the grand scheme of things, its barely a blip on the radar for what is coming in store the next few years I'm guessing.

And this is coming from one of DCA's biggest critics. Believe me, I was not a fan the first 5 years or so.

You folks do realize that the foundation from the Maliboomer is shared with that of Screamin'. If they tear out the platform of the Mailboomer, that is weeks worth of California Screamin' being un-operational.

Quoted for truth. I agree 100% about Main Street. It looks like Candyland. I wish they'd go back to something approximating the color scheme that Walt himself hand-picked.

Come on, people! You really think Disney would spend a lot money to build a lush new park only to have it torn down sometime in the near future? That would be a total waste of money. If it is true they are planning to replace it with something better at that time, this is a good temporary solution.

Also remember, there's still a good two months away before Little Mermaid opens. Plenty of time to have more paint done. I personally think the new rotunda looks great so far.

I haven't seen the "lush new park" in person yet (I will be there today tho) but it seems like a decent place for the time being. I'm just thrilled to have the option back of NOT having to get back up the hill after riding screamin' and tsmm. I do think, however, Disney advertised the space falsely and got everyone's hopes too high. They made it seem as if the place would be grassy and full of wonderful shade to rest and relax. Oh well. We should just be glad to have that at the moment and the fact that the area looks as temporary as it does gives me hope that they are working on the plans to get it up to true Disney standards in the near future.

    This too.

    Gotta remember people:

This is not the area they're wanting to currently pull guests. It's a way to bring in some green plants to a lacking area, getting rid of a ride that wasn't going to thematically work, no matter what idea people come up with on the boards, and making the area look nice despite how temporary it is.

Like I stated before, you cannot argue with their plans. The man draw is the Little Mermaid this summer. A lot of guests are going to be on the north end of the bay because of the fish girl. Then because it's all pretty and new, they're going to be eating at the new Dining location.

This 'park' area is simply means as a brief rest spot between the new stuff on the north end, and the still popular attractions (Screamin' and TSMM) on the south end.

Say it's cheap, or whatever, but you forget about the budget. The money is allotted to other areas that area bigger matter in the grand scheme of things right now. Would you like them to cut back the budget on Carsland, and not get certain things, so you can have an attraction back in the corner? How about we cut the budget a bit for those super HQ AA's we'll be getting for the The Little Mermaid so we can add a Tunnel of Love, or a Fun House?

A lot on here are so short sighted, I'm surprised they see their nose. The big picture is much more grand, and there's a lot of cool things to happen in the future. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. You'll get your attraction in the back eventually. Give it some time, and don't be so impatient.

And a final note about the paint:
You can't really compare paint from other locations (internationally). Disney uses colors that work well for THAT environment. So it's painfully obvious that colors are going to be different here vs. there.

Another thing: Walt handpicked original colors, sure. Whoop de doo. That's in the past for a reason. Everything at Disneyland, or any Disney park really, is an IDEALIZED CONCEPT of what things are. Yes, even down to the paint scheme. So think its over the top, or similar to your local GAP or shopping mall. But in the major points of everything, the paint does not matter as much as people are hyping it up to be.

That don't want it to stand out. There's no reason for it too. It's a pathway between two areas with nothing to do yet, they want it comfortable, easy on the eyes, and a place you simply pass through. They aren't trying to win awards here with this one. We never saw concept art for it so why we're expecting it to look like something is a bit strange. The art on the walls were just pretty pictures that really didn't have much to do with the park itself.

They want it pretty, but forgettable. They've done a good job. They don't want some gorgeous, stunning area that causes crowds and bottlenecks. Just a simple place for folks to rest should they want as you pass through on your way to something truly amazing.

Our revels now are ended. Just be glad that now no one has to walk all the way around the pier to get from Mickey's Fun Wheel to Silly Symphony Swings. The path, at this point, is just like the one from Bugsland to Hollywoodland--heck, even nicer. It's more of a convenience rather than an actual park. I think more guests will appreciate the time saved by this new path rather than complain about how "incomplete" the park looks.

Ok I'm gonna shift gears a little. WorldofDisney's post got me thinking more about that big picture lol...next year after the opening of Carsland and BVS it would be really awesome to have a huge photo essay/article by MiceAge or something that goes through before and after pictures of all changes in DCA since the expansion announcement in 2007. Everything big and small. Would be so interesting to see I think.
