And also, translating the Kiss the Girl scene into a dark ride would be very difficult in my opinion, the time it takes for them to lean in is significantly shorter than the time it would take to exit the room.

How it could have been handled would be to have Ariel and Eric be less of a important part of the scene and put in lots of supporting characters to add more life to the scene.

A 5, ouch!! Yeah with that rating it doesnt sound like anything can do from this point on can raise it higher for you. Its funny since another poster rated it an 8.5. But thats the thing about this stuff, its SO subjective between people and expectations, its hard to gauge until we get a lot more reviews flowing in. I would HOPE its at least a 7 or above for me, so I'm still pretty positive despite the bad reviews.

Whats odd though is the reviews I read are either highly praising it or just really dissappointed by it. Very few been of the its good, but not great variety so far.

Haunted Mansion I'd give an 9. Pooh at DL: 5. Monster's Inc. at DCA: 8

It's been a while since I've seen Pooh and Monster's Inc. So I'm just basing that off of my recollection.

Disregarding the cohesion of the story, how would you rate it based on believability, enjoyment, the sets and the effects. Sorry haha, it just has to be better than Monsters Inc!!!

    And thanks for your trouble

I mean... Monsters Inc. an 8?! Whoa. Can you give us your reasonings for that so we can see where you're coming from.

Yeah, I haven't ridden TLM, but I highly doubt I can consider MI to be even near the same caliber as HM.

Mermaid easily gets an 8.5 from me. I'm a masculine 21yr old dude, and on my first ride through, I started to tear up in the Under the Sea room! I was able to let myself get completely swept up in the emotion of it all. There was a big goofy grin on my face for the rest of the trip! The "issues" that are being discussed here are mere preferences. Just as in any other attraction at the disneyland resort, plenty imperfections or bits of behind-the-scenes workings are easy to spot if you're looking for them.

I think I'm gonna cut down on my visits to the fan boards for a while if only because my perception of anything new to the parks is quickly skewed, for better or for worse, and I'm not so sure I like that.

I'm glad to see there are two as this ride (and Luigi's) will be slow to load and unload as it is. When you need CM's to check restraints or doors or whatever on many vehicles, it's not going to go very fast; i.e. Dumbo and Teacups.

Um, "masculine" and "tear up" don't exactly align buddy. I think your definition of masculine is pretty flawed.

Re: Disney California Adventure Project Tracker XI

Like somebody said above, it is all subjective this stuff. I had a friend who was a CM and went to the preview, but he only told me like a week ago. Anyways he told me taht the kiss the girl thing was a bit tacky, but still nothing to cause for alarm. I mean this in the sense when i look at Disneyland. I mean, it is all based on nostalgia and pure ambience over there in Fantasyland, but a thing to note is how nobody really moves their hands. Nobody is going to really wonder if they lean in or not and if they did it might look a bit to tacky.

He also told me that the queue was amazing, as a lot of people are saying, but he also mentioned something important. He said that the transitition from the ride to back out to DCA was great. he said it really made him realize how the place, bustling with activity, would really look like that Victorian Theme Park. He mentioned a lot of other stuff, but i guess you guys already figured a lot of it out. But one thing i have to point out. He gave it a 9.0 because he said that DCA has barley any attractions for kids. he said that kids is what is what partly made DCA fail. No kid rides. To me, a kid won't care if there is not leaning in, no kiss the girl scene at all, but if there was no attraction, it would have been a blow for the new park. So to me, i like that it's there. Aahahah, sorry when i reread this it also sounds really subjective.

Ah, discs makes more mechanical sense. I hadn't seen that other ride before. Thanks for the info!

Actually, if LM had used a Monster's Inc. type of vehicle (i.e. not an omnimover), there's a good chance that it would rate better. The pacing of an individual vehicle would have probably improved the ability to follow the story as it's presented. That would still leave the issue of Ariel's "ice cream cone" hair and the "(non)Kiss the Girl" scene and weak ending.

BTW, Sebastian was probably the best part of the attraction.

But even that wouldn't have fixed Ariel's "ice cream" hair.
