Round 3: If you had to choose...
Here we go for a third time! This time we'll take a break from DL and head over to DCA!
If you had to choose one of the following three rides to close forever, without the promise of a replacement, which would it be and why?
Soarin' Over California
California Screamin'
Grizzly River Run
Re: Round 3: If you had to choose...
I love all 3, but if I had to choose, I can do without the 'Screamin', simply because its just a coaster.......
Re: Round 3: If you had to choose...
Me I will say Grizzly River Run
and put something better with story
Re: Round 3: If you had to choose...
Grizzly River Run. I don't care for rides that get your completely soaked.
Re: Round 3: If you had to choose...
GRR can go.
Its my least favorite out of the three.
Re: Round 3: If you had to choose...
Soarin' Over California. Both my wife and I found it to be a big yawner, despite it's popularity and rave reviews.
Re: Round 3: If you had to choose...
DEFINITELY not Soarin'. Easily the greatest creative triumph in the original DCA, to my way of thinking, and it's not hurting for attendance, either.
GRR seems less popular than Screamin', probably because it's less thrilling and more uncomfortable in non-broiling weather. But it's more creatively interesting...and it's got more potential to become even more creatively interesting...and I don't know what their respective capacities are like...
On the other hand, though, removing GRR would leave more room for a new attraction, methinks. Screamin' is sprawled out over a large area in such a way that it wouldn't be especially easy to replace, but GRR is all in one huge spot. It'd be a lot easier to build something new there. Screamin' is also a pretty integral part of the Paradise Pier skyline, for better or worse.
With the information available to me, I choose GRR...but I could bearily decide.
Re: Round 3: If you had to choose...
That was easy -
Grizzly River Run can go!
All too wet .. and too little "Disney" show.
Re: Round 3: If you had to choose...
I would personally keep California Screamin because it's a fun ride ( and realistically, I go on it all the time) so that I would keep.
As for Soarin- that is an amazing ride despite that I get freaked out if I get the very front row since you are suspended near the top of the screen and looking down in scary.
Grizzly is my least favorite...but I like to go on it if it is very hot and I never get the chance since there is always a 75 minute wait. But after this...I would choose Grizzly.
Re: Round 3: If you had to choose...
I actually appreciate the idea of an old school sea side amusement coaster, so despite lack of theming I would want Screamin' to stay, its good for the atmosphere and thrills.
Soarin is a pretty fun albeit tame way to enjoy oneself. Also, the design and idea are pretty unique.
Grizzly....now thats just a river rapids ride. Fun? Sure. Beautiful? Well, yeah. Necessary? No. In fact I always consider river rapid rides to be place holders until a park needs the space to grow. (except for BRB at Islands of Adventures, thats loads of fun)
In short, Grizzly gets the boot.
Re: Round 3: If you had to choose...
I would choose GRR it offers me nothing :) I don't mind getting wet but there is no story really its just awkward IMO. It;s great to go on to get wet but that's all it has to offer.
Re: Round 3: If you had to choose...
I think I'd vote for Screamin'. I like coasters okay, but I prefer the thematic aspect of the other two better.
Re: Round 3: If you had to choose...
Sure, California Screaming is a pretty great roller coaster, but at the end of the day, it's still just a roller coaster. There's nothing to really distinguish this from roller coasters in dozens of amusement parks.
The theming of GRR adds something even for those who don't go on it.
Soaring is an awesome, unique experience. Truly DCA's top attraction.

Well ... I should be a little fairer.

Lots of nice rock work. I see some bushes and other trees. ...... And some water splashing around. And that pretty much makes up 99.5 % of the attraction ... with that .5% of "50s" gear that replaced the modern day gear. Sporadically thrown around ... here and there .. throughout the ride.
Re: Round 3: If you had to choose...
GRR. It's the type of ride you can find at any theme park.
