Why would they be not good? Many people will want to ride TLM first as it is their favorite. Many will want to ride Star Tours first as it is their favorite. Some will look at one and decide the line is too long and will go to the other.

Will I be safe if I just stay away from those rides on opening day, or will the entire park be incredibly crowded? I'm not a huge fan of overwhelming crowds, so I'm trying to decide what to do. Advice?
Disney hadn't announced anything for these rides yet, so there should have been no expectations. There were only rumors. As to what you can expect... the parks will be busy, but the crowds will be concentrated on those two rides. There will of course be the bleed over as some don't want to bother, but those lines should be 2 - 3 hours long each and will hold a lot of people.

Also, rides under huge stress like that can go down. If you notice it's down, ask a CM if they know when it will be up. If it's in a few minutes, hang around, you could get on it, opening day, with little more than a 5 minute wait. We did on Pirates the day it reopened.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. I'm not following what you meant by that. What does Disney need to announce about those rides that will allow us to expect certain things? I don't mean that in a rude way, I just don't get it. : )

You said that you expected the ride to be open the previous week. My question was why you expected this? Disney had given no indication that this was to be the opening date. There were only rumors and mentions, but nothing official. It's not as if Disney said it would be open in May and then changed your mind after you planned your trip. If no official announcement has been made then there can be no basis for an expectation. That was all I was saying, and no rudeness taken in your response. I hope you don't think I'm being rude either. I'm not trying to be

It means that we can't start to think of all these amazing things that we expect to be in the ride and then when they aren't we get disappointed. Like Disney said that Ursula will be 8 feet tall, so we can expect that she will be a massive and impressive figure. But we can't expect to see Ariel transform from mermaid to human because Disney hasn't announced anything like that. It would just be naive to expect these things, if that makes sense?

There's no guarantee that this will level the crowds in both parks since Disneyland will open early and thus the vast majority of people will be going to Star Tours first and likely go to DCA to ride TLM once they're finished.

The earlier you get there the better I say. Make sure you have the whole day open to wait for both rides.

Is either ride going to have a little grand opening presentation?

The question that is in my mind right now is....for those of us who have already planned trips and expected these rides to open the previous week and are now going to be there during opening day, what should I expect? I've never been there during the opening of a new ride. Is it mostly just going to be those two rides drawing the crowds that day? Will I be safe if I just stay away from those rides on opening day, or will the entire park be incredibly crowded? I'm not a huge fan of overwhelming crowds, so I'm trying to decide what to do. Be there at opening and maybe grab a FastPass right away for Star Tours and then maybe get in line since it will be worse by noon. Then you can ride it at least once and maybe twice. I suspect Mermaid lines will move faster due to the Omnimover ride system in which the vehicles always keep moving.

Wow. Clearly I just rolled out of bed. I really couldn't fathom what you were talking about, and now I have no clue why I didn't get what you meant. It's all very clear to me. : )
I'm not really that upset about it, I figured it wouldn't open when I thought it would! (That's usually what happens!) I was just thinking that it would make sense for them to open it before Memorial weekend, because that sounds like a nice thing to do for all the Memorial Day crowds. Just my naive little brain wanting everybody to be happy and ride new rides on their Memorial Day trips! I really should know better!

I'm actually pretty stoked to be there when it opens, seems like it will be loads of fun even with the insanity involved. I'm just worried about dealing with my husband who is used to being there mid-May when the longest wait ever was like....30 minutes. He might be like..the grumpiest cruise that ever set sail, so it had better be worth it! *pray to the Disney gods*

Good idea! You rarely have two new, major rides opening on the same day!

I wish I could be there...what excitement there will be!

Yeah, I get it! I just read it weird and the sentence blew up in my brain.

I don't care if we see Ariel transform from mermaid to human, (as hot as that would be) as long as Ursula scares the bejoozel out of me.

Opening day for rides is always a bad idea. Remember when the TSMM queue started in sunshine plaza. If you go opening day, those are the only two attractions you will ride so if your willing to waste a full day for 2 attractions then totally go.

Not necessarily. Day Pirates re-opened the line went through Frontierland, down Main Street to City Hall. 5 hours long. We got on the ride with a 5 minute wait. Invariably rides go down on opening days. Not always, but there's a really good chance. Just gotta keep your eyes open and talk to CMs. It's entirely possible that one or both will go down during the day and they'll clear the line. If you ride rides near by and keep an eye on the line you can pull it off sometimes. Sometimes you do just have to bite the bullet and wait. Opening day is a toss up like that, but you go into it expecting a wait and you main be surprised.

Does anyone know if Disney is offering some sort of premium fast pass so that you don't have to wait in line if you shell out a couple of hundred dollars?
