A Familiar Happy Haunt Joins The 999 Residents of the Haunted Mansion
by Francis Goria, Attraction Liasion, Disneyland Resort
Over the years, the Haunted Mansion has housed many infamous and lesser-known spooks to the delight of 'foolish' mortal visitors. We are proud to announce today that a long-awaited silly spook is re-joining this classic attraction after a 40 year (and then some!) hiatus. Starting tomorrow, both constant visitors and new guests to Disneyland's Haunted Mansion will have the chance to spend some face time with well-known 'lost' spirit The Hatbox Ghost. Originally installed in 1969 and removed after a matter of weeks due to technical challenges, Imagineers finally solved how to coax this "grim grinning ghost" into the mortal realm once more, to take part in the attic scene opposite his bride. Rather than relying on complex and temperamental robotics and illusions, or, (gulp!), a real ghost: the solution was a perfect meld of practicality and offering an enhanced experienced for Guests. As they enter the attic and take in the familiar tableux, visitors will be unaware of the lurking presence of an unseen ghost, waiting to startle them with his familiar grin and delightfully eerie puns: in order to fully give an interactive experience, Disneyland Casting is pleased to announce the Hatbox Ghost will be a live performer happy to joke back and forth with patrons and reassure children the Mansion is safe, or to smear himself with stage blood and leap out from behind the accumulated attic props to interact with more sophisticated guests in search of thrills and chills.
In addition, images of this beloved spectre have been added throughout the ride. Play a delightfully dreary game of "hide and shriek" and see if you can spot them all on your next visit!
We hope to see you soon at the Disneyland Resort...hurry back.....
