Smile Star Trader Reopens May 4th

Galactic Offerings Await You at The Star Trader at Disneyland Resort « Disney Parks Blog

With the official countdown to the re-opening of Star Tours underway, I thought I’d take you to a galaxy not too far away from this fan favorite attraction, The Star Trader. About a month ago, I learned this popular merchandise location would be re-opening on May 4. So for the past couple of weeks I’ve been using every Jedi mind trick I can to find out more about what will be “in store” for you in May and beyond.

How many of you remember the X-Wing Fighter that once hung in the Star Trader location? Well, I’m proud to say, it’s back! Be the first to see it when the shop re-opens, May 4.
Whether you’re preparing to battle the dark side or you’re just practicing your Jedi skills, here a few tips that will better prepare you for your journey to some of the new destinations.

Build Your Own Lightsaber – Padawans must use the Force to guide their hands in making a new Lightsaber. Just select the hilt, emitter, blade color, switch, ring, hilt sleeve and adapter and become the envy of Jedi’s everywhere.

In late May, you will find a galaxy of new Star Tours and Star Wars inspired-apparel, toys and more that will reach their final destinations on our store shelves. Here’s a quick peek at one of the Disneyland Resort-specific items that will be available, but I promised fellow bloggers, Dara Trujillo and Steven Miller, that I wouldn’t show anything else. I can assure you, that their Disney Parks Blog posts will be worth the wait. Not only will they show you some other great apparel and toy items coming your way, but Dara also has the inside scoop on everything merchandise-related for Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Passholders, I assure you the Force is strong! There is an entire collection of Star Tours merchandise being made just for you. Here’s what I consider one of the “must-have” passholder items that will be available in late May. As soon as I get an official release date, I’ll let you know. And wait until you see the rest.

May the Force be with you!
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.

Nice to hear hear the X-Wing will be back and finally somewhere where you can see the full thing. I have high hopes that the store will be just as nice as everything else they have been doing for Star Tours.

I love that Disney is having fun with the opening date. For those that don't get it. Say it outloud - "May the Fourth" (be with you)

If those make it yourself lightsabers were like $20 bucks I'd be first to walk in that store but knowing that it's Disney, knowing that it's DisneyLAND, knowing that it's Star Wars, and knowing it's a "make it yourself" product, I'm willing to bet it's somewhere around $69.99 - $89.99

I forgot how much they are, but they already have them, and they are up at the temporary Star Traders now... not sure why Disney is acting like they are new.

I wonder how soon it will be before they ruin the theme of this shop like they did in Adventureland and start selling Billabong and Quicksilver merchandise along side theme appropriate stuff.

Glad to see they're actually doing something with the X-Wing. I've only seen it from the line of Space Mountain and have always wanted to see the whole thing. Wouldn't surprise me if it's cleaned-up for the new store. As a matter of fact I'm looking forward to seeing the entire store whether it's drastically refurbished or not. Hopefully it will be just as nice as the new Star Tours exterior (Quality-wise).

Does this mean they might be doing something with the Starcade soon?

I talked with cast members about that. Apparently the 2nd level won't open ever again thanks to ADA considerations. The escalator isn't ADA compliant, and the ever-broke establishment we all love doesn't have the money to do anything with it, so it will just stay as storage. They also said they were thinking of leaving the Star Wars photo booth where it is, and they might leave some retail space in there.

To do a full arcade, I don't know if they can these days. Not enough interest.. as Elijah Wood said in BTTF, "you have to use your hands? That's baby stuff." 2015 is only four years away now... who woulda thought it would be here so fast? but arcades from the 80s are pretty much dead.
