Great pic!! Per the flickr info you used a shutter speed of 8 to get this awesome shot. Did you use a tripod to keep the camera still and if so where did you have the room to set it up without foot traffic getting in the way?

Thank you for the comment. Ok, here's my (secret) photographic invention for long night time exposures.....an athletic sock. I do not take a tripod into the parks. After reading about all of the issues with certain security people, I've decided I don't really need the hassle.

So if I see a shot I want to take I look for the nearest suitable flat surface to rest my camera on. If I have to elevate the lens, as in this pic, I roll up the sock and put it under the lens near the camera body. I usually wind up using one of the many trash cans that are around. For this shot I used a trash can that was in front of the River Belle.

Beanie Babies work well for this, too. Small, fit in a little backpack nicely, and you can nestle the camera down into the body of the little guy, especially for point and shoots. I've shot a lot of night shots using trash cans.

Thats a great (secret) invention GeeVee! I've only been to the park once so far with my tripod and while I didn't get any guff from security that day I was a little paranoid about the crowds. Funny thing is that I carry around extra socks in my backpack (old boy scout habits die hard) and would have never thought of doing that. I'll give that method a "shot" next time.

Anyone know what the BBCode is to resize an image here? I've tried a couple possibilities:

    Neither [img={width}x{height}]...[/img] nor [img width={width} height={height}]...[/img] worked.

Obviously I could upload a smaller image in addition to a larger one, but I don't want to upload two versions of the same photo.
