How unfortunate...but He passed away of natural causes which at least was better than it being an accident...nevertheless it's still sad to have a longtime cast member pass on.
May he now rest in peace

Oh My God. I just found out about this. I knew tis man. He and I both worked in the New Orleans Main Kitchen (the kitchen referred to as "near POTC" for several years before I left in 1982.
Phil Doyle was one of a kind, to say the least. I never knew his family...but my prayers go out to them anyway. I'll have some more thoughts about Phil a bit later.

That is so sad. Thoughts and prayers to his family. And reading the comments, I don't know why this person said this in the comments:
"disney does not really care... they will replace him in a week...."

I've been thinking a lot about Phil since the time I first saw this thread today.
I mean, I hadn't seen the man in almost 30 years. But how many co-workers have you had, who spent breaks translating ancient Russian literature? In the bowels of Disneyland yet.
I was a political science major in college, and much more conservative then than I am now. I was a staunch Ronald Reagan conservative, and Phil was the definition of a FDR-turned Jimmy Carter liberal Democrat. We spent time washing dishes, and pots, and ovens debating domestic policy, and whether the "New Deal" was just so much BS and only World War Two rescued us from the Depression...remember, I knew Phil from essentially 1976-1982.
We wore whites like you see the street sweepers wear, with paper sanitary hats and big rubber boots because of the, well, water and such we had to stand in.
Later, I was promoted to cook...and Phil became a Lead MKH (Miscellaneous Kitchen Help).
He then became a Supervisor assistant, and at the time I left, he was making out schedules aqnd such. I hear that he became the kitchen's lead receiver, a very prominent full-time post, and he was one of the few still working there from those I worked with. Others are Raymundo Gill, now driving trams in the parking lot, and Alan Crowder, executive chef for Main Street and some of DCA.
Phil wasn't a very tall man. He was stocky, with thick black hair (when I knew him) and he wore large glasses as I recall.
Phil, you were a special man indeed. RIP, old friend.
Thank you Barry, for sharing your memories. Phil sounds like he was a smart, interesting guy to talk to, as well as a loyal hard worker! It is rare to find someone with depth like that.
May God comfort his family...
Man, this is sad. I will pray for his family, in all respect. Hopefully Disney will give his family the recognition and respect they deserve.

I probably knew Phil while at the Blue Bayou, but I can't recall. So sorry to hear of his death.
I'll take a large Tea Cup with a side of Casey Jr. And when will all the construction finally end?
