Re: Star Tours: The Adventures Continue Views and Reviews

I just feel this is like trying to apply logic to Santa Claus. The bug scene in Indiana Jones took place before the boulder scene or the dart scene (as TOD was a prequel), but in the "new" Disney ride adventure, they happen at the same time. It's a coherent story, but it includes elements from the movies that take place at two different times.

Hell, Indiana Jones isn't even Indiana Jones--dude doesn't even SOUND like Harrison Ford. Honestly, that takes me out of the Indy ride more than the time inconsistencies take me out of the Star Tours ride.

Here's a question: had Lucas just said, hey, we created a story that is based on scenes from different time periods within the story in order to immerse people in the movies with a "new" story (like Indy), would the time detractors be okay with it?

Re: Star Tours: The Adventures Continue Views and Reviews

I finally got a chance to ride it twice during the soft opening yesterday.

Storm Trooper / Tatooine / Yoda / Naboo
Darth Vader / Kashyyyk / Leia / Coruscant

I was happy each ride had all different scenes. I'm hoping to get two more rides in on my AP preview on June 1rst. I won't be able to get there until just before my last hour, so probably the best I'll do is two more rides.

I enjoyed it. The video before you board the ship kind of bothered me, but I guess it is the only way to really set up the reason for C3PO being in the ship. Overall I was very happy, and look forward to going on it again on Wednesday. I really want to see the Death Star scene.

The Indy ride has a coherent story??? That's news to me. And everyone else.

What's not coherent about the Indy story? You go into the temple, you're looking for one of three things, but you tick off the god Mara by looking into his eye, and then it's off to the races as you try to avoid all the perils within the temple. It's an easy story to understand, and no one cares where it fits in to the Indy movie timeline.

I think that's exactly what should have happened. But they mistakenly gave this ride a number - 3.5, putting it squarely into the Star Wars timeline. As such, there are some things that should happen, and some things that shouldn't happen. Not that I care, and I can't wait to ride it myself. But it's this timeline problem that is causing all the fuss.

That's what you call a coherent story? Mara is just a gimmick for sending us off on a bunch of scenes inspired by the Indy movies (mostly Raiders). The scenes are one close call or adventure after another, with zero narrative flow (the scenes at the beginning don't set up what happens in the middle, which doesn't set up what happens at the end). And it all works, because it's a ride, not a story.

I'll agree with you on one thing: no one cares how this ride fits in the Indy movies, and no one should care how the Star Tours adventures fit in the SW universe, either.

LOVED my first ride yesterday....from Darth Vader, to the Wookie sliding off the windshield, the combat scene...all of it was done extremely well and I still can't get over the fact that the next time I ride it, it could be completely different. Thumbs up....nice job on this Disney!

That part made me laugh so hard, lol. But when I see it in person (because I saw it on video) I think I will even laugh more.

Ok, it seems to have had declining reliability and that's my biggest issue with the ride.

Throughout the week, for all AP previews and soft opening, it was ok.

Then yesterday, after filming it was down for a long while.

Today, for AP previews, it was down twice (for almost two hours total) during the original 9a-1p morning block. Consequently, they told all AP in this block: we will honor your tickets this afternoon.

Then, in the afternoon, people started lining up at 3p (for preview starting at 4p) and line went all the way from the small FP queue through Tomorrowland Terrace all the way to Nemo! At 3:45p, they started announcing problems and that the previews would not start at 4p. at 4:15p, they were tried their best to disband the massive line because the ride was broken... It finally got fixed... around 7p!

The ride being 25 years old (and it had become pretty darn reliable!), this is kinda sad...

Oh, and on half of the morning ride, the 'rebel in cabin' picture effect was not working at all

I always thought that if the ride is done and complete to just open it already to the public (same for TLM). But its a good thing they didnt because its already having probs

^ I hope they get everything working in the next few days. There are some really awesome effects, specifically the Rebel in Cabin effect, that they need to get working, as that is just awesome! I have faith in Disney and that they will get every effect working by June 3rd.
