Star Tours: The Adventures Continue Views and Reviews

One thing I'm wondering about that no one has mentioned, how is the new music? I heard Michael Giacinno was doing it and his work with Space Mountain, Ratatouille, The Incredibles, and Up is just amazing stuff.

To be honest, i wasn't that pleased with it. When I rode, it really stood out as "music". I'll have to do it again to really see if it was my imagination but it didn't seem to match the ride as well as the original did.

But then again, I already spoke my beef that the new ride doesn't flow naturally from scene to scene so that is part of the issue.

Anyone get the Delta Airlines reference? Ally San-San mentions there is no smoking or photography on ANY Star Tours flight... ha ha ha ha. And yes, it IS a Delta reference.

Question on that: Is the music changed or varied with different strands of the segments or is it just one piece made to fit all the versions? Really curious how they made that work.

But it is cool when you think of ALL the moving parts to make this ride work. It just sounds incredible.

The 2nd G2 droid sounds a lot like Puddy/Kronk/Joe Swanson aka Patrick Warburton but not listed on imdb.com.

As for VADER.... I think I recall reading the D23 article that it was the original voice. Is there anywhere that confirms it isn't him? It also says Frank Oz voices Yoda again.

Yeah, it's gotta be Patrick Warburton. It sounds identical to the high-pitched Kronk shoulder devil/angel he voiced in TENG.

Star Tours > The Little Mermaid

I only was able to get on Star Tours once, and got the worst (from what I hear) destinations. Despite my poor first experience, I have an urge to ride again, something that wasn't really there with Mermaid beyond me giving it 3 chances to soak in.

Star Tours is a good attraction, but I really thought they went the cheap route by not having ANY scale models. Everything looks smooth and shines with polish, and it looks absolutely fake. When you get to ride, compare the Space Port you are docked in at the beginning to the one in the original Star Tours. I am fine with having computer animation for effects that you cannot do feasibly otherwise, but do it with everything just sucks me out of the theme.

It already looks dated... Which makes you wonder how it'll look ten years down the road. Even the queue is almost too "clean" for comfort. The old droidnostics room had a lot going on in the pit below. The retired Adventure Through Inner Space equipment fit in nicely. Now the room is just full of boxes, aside from Rex and the two DSA droids doing their tasks. Also sadly absent is the conveyor belt carrying junk around above you. It really seems like less is going on. Again, minor criticisms, but it sucks me out.

My final point is a repeat of my last one. If you have been on other Motion Simulator attractions, namely those at Luxor in Las Vegas, you will know just how bad CGI can start looking only a few years later. The original Star Tours did not have this problem, the models held up well over the years. Now I am not so sure Industrial Light and Magic made a keeper. ILM have not been the leaders in their field since the early 2000's, Weta: Digital took that spot with Lord of the Rings and King Kong. It is very sad when they are still using CGI from 1998 in a 2011 ride.

Aahh ok. Well you know how GL is, loves his CGI. Real probs, animatronics beat anything thats CGI, unless someone can point to me where im wrong

Alright another honest review--and I think the worst one I read about this ride so far lol. I havent done it of course, so I have to take your word. But not sure how it can ALREADY look dated? In fact watching bits of prequels even now looks good in terms of special effects. Yes, some of it look fake of course, always have, but it generally looks good. The problem was it was just TOO much of it.

And like you said, you only did it once. Can I ask what destinations did you get?
