    Blizzard Beach Anaheim?

Why hasn't Disney ever built a water park in Anaheim? They have room next to the Paradise Pier to put in a park. Personally I've always thought it is because they fear the park would be over run by too many locals and not necessarily achieve the goal of locking guests into the Disney Resort for one more day because of the crowding.

But it would be cool to have a Blizzard Beach West.

How much space do they actually have next to Paradise Pier? If they truly do have space comparable to Blizzard Beach, I would have thought they'd have done something with it by now.

I suspect that Disney does not have enough land in Anaheim to "waste" it on a water park. I don't think a water park has the potential to generate revenue anywhere close to what a hotel or theme park would.

In Floriday, they have the space to do whatever they want. In Anaheim, they have to be more selective.

The parking lot next to PP Hotel is actually bigger than the lot sized used for Blizzard Beach, so that location would be the most ideal for a heavily themed Water Park. I have been rooting for a water park since I became a Disney fan. I really hope once they get the new Parking Structure up across from Garden Walk, that they consider a Water Park in that lot. It might even guarantee that people would stay on property longer.

Because there's a real beach not even 20 minutes away that's not closed for half a year...

Does that mean putting a water park there would require the elimination of the PP Hotel parking lot? A water park in the area is not a bad idea, but they can't just eliminate guest parking. No one is going to park off-site and take a shuttle over to their hotel.

It's really too cool in Anaheim to support a waterpark. As indicated, it would be closed for half the year. Disney could get a much bigger return on a park facility of that size and price that would pull in guests year round.

Florida is warmer longer, and Disney has more cheaper land available to use for something like this.

Not to mention Soak City some 15 minutes away.
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

Yeah but Soak City Buena Park, Soak City Chula Vista and especially Wild Rivers Irvine are even closer to the beach and they have all been successful.

Yes, and Disney loses guests to Soak City and sometimes Raging Waters and Wild Rivers. People on other travel sites are often asking about water parks.

Ah, forgot to mention, they could do an indoor park like the one going in in Garden Grove.

Great Wolf Resorts Water Park Hotel Comes to

Or do an indoor-outdoor park where the roof retracts.

    Re: Blizzard Beach Anaheim?

I'm a huge advocate of the Disneyland water park idea. Especially if Disney ever gets around to redoing Paradise Pier Hotel to match the rethemed Paradise Pier, in which case they can integrate the water park into the redesigned hotel.

That said, I'm not sure if Blizzard Beach is the best theme idea, seeing as it's currently unique to WDW, and Anaheim has to deal with actual chilliness during parts of the year (so that a snow-covered water park would probably seem like realistic theming in a way that isn't desirable). But there are plenty of theme options they could explore.

And I'm confident Disney could come up with a solution for the weather problem, whether it's an indoor water park or one with a retractable roof.

^ It's true that there are off-site places that guests can go to for a water park... and that's the exact reason Disney might consider building one. That's money Disney is currently losing, and could be making. Disney has tried to model the Disneyland Resort to be more like WDW, where guests have strong incentive to stay on property and where leaving is made largely unnecessary, and IMO a water park would be an excellent way to do that.

Out of the three times that I have been to the Resort this past year (June, November, and May), I wouldn't have wanted to hit a hypothetical on-property water park at any time. Temps were mostly comfortable, but never to the point that I was warm enough to be in water. We were even hesitant to ride water rides after 2pm because if we didn't dry off, we thought we'd be miserable after the sun went down.

Mickeyfan, if you are getting to Raging Waters (San Dimas) in 15 minutes from Disneyland, I am curious just how fast you are driving?

Even if people were going to Raging Waters, etc. that would reinforce the idea that Disney needs on on property, not diminish it.
