What would Pirates of the Caribbean be like if the movie had come first?

I know, one of those silly questions and there's a small problem of the space-time continuum, but...

What if the movie Pirates of the Caribbean had come out BEFORE the attraction and the attraction had been built as a marketing tool for the rest of the movies in the series?

How would the attraction have been different?

I think the attraction would be extremely different. I don't think we would see the grottos in the beginning, but if we did it would be themed to the place where the Aztec chest is stored.

The city would probably be Tortuga or Port Royal with the Black Pearl attacking it. Jack Sparrow would probably show up in every scene.

It would probably be a basic rehash of the movie's events.

Tia Dalma would be in the place of the old man at the beginning; the Black Pearl would be the first ship you see; Will and Elizabeth would be included, with a probability of the first time we see them during the ride is when the Black Pearl attacks Port Royal; we'd see the effects of the curse on the pirates with them turning from flesh to bone (would be a really cool effect in the ride to see one go from a fleshy, human looking pirate to a skeleton pirate); the Navy would have the kind of presence they did in the films; there would most likely be an impressive Kraken (partial) animatronic, along with a Davy Jones one; Jones and his crew would have a presence, with his fish-like crew members having either animatronics or projections... The course of the ride could possibly include a trip to Davy Jones locker as seen in the film (though not exactly).

In short, I think the ride would be a lot more supernatural than it is, since the films deal with lots of supernatural elements; they've have had everything from skeleton pirates, to the Kraken, to Davy Jones and his fish-men, to mermaids and what-have-you. Of course, you'd still have the non-supernatural pirates as seen in the current attraction, and they would be doing the things they do now, but you'd also have the supernatural stuff mentioned above incorporated.

I agree that it wouldn't be as impressive or as memorable as its current iteration, but something about seeing a Davey Jones animatronic sounds really interesting.

It would be cool to see the tentacles on his face squirming and moving about with a mind of their own, like they do in the movies.

I adore Johnny Depp, but that was funny!

The ride would be much different and a much lesser version than what we have now but it would still be a cool ride to experience. They could do a lot of visual effects since there is visually so much to take in in the films.

Re: What would Pirates of the Caribbean be like if the movie had come first?

The ride would of course follow scenes from the films, refitted if they added elements from the 4th one.

I can't really say what would appear and what not - I haven't seen any of the Pirates movies and the last time I was on it there was no Jack Sparrow overlay. In fact, the one in DLP still is in its original form, but rumor circle around of Jack Sparrow coming to Paris - let's hope not. From experience, though, the animatronics would be more realistic than the caricatures of humans and the focus would, as mentioned already, be on the supernatural rather than throwing you into a more "accurate" pirate world.

In short, the ride would be more about telling the story.

Absolutely not. It would be a ride through scenes of the movies like most of the other "Story Based" attractions they have built the past decade.

Re: What would Pirates of the Caribbean be like if the movie had come first?

    Cons:
None of my favorite pirates would be in the ride...
Pirate with dirty foot on bridge
    Pirate with pigs
Pirate sitting on canon by the ending lift
No flying dutchman with cool lightning and thunder effects

Probably no skeleton scenes in the first half of the ride and no Blue Bayou restaurant with fireflies or banjo playing old guy and more daylight scenes. And it would most likely be a shorter ride.

    Pros:
    Better animatronics
Maybe lots of cool raining scenes/effects (since in most of the movies its always raining)
    William Turner!!!!!

Re: What would Pirates of the Caribbean be like if the movie had come first?

It would be a completely different ride; probably more narrow in its scope, and loosely tying the stories of the films by recreating many of the well-known scenes from the four movies. Jack and Will would be dueling toward the start of the ride. I wouldn't be surprised to see the cursed skeletons from the first film on the Black Pearl. Nor would I be surprised to see Davy Jones threatening those near death at sea. I'd expect to see the kracken near the climax of the ride. Blackbeard and more Barbossa audio animatronics would be a given. Instead of three Jacks, there'd probably be like five of them. It would be a completely different attraction in every way.
