There has got to be a solution to the alleged "copper poisoining". The swans are great -- bring 'em back!

The swans were union swans, and the most recent round of labor negotiations broke down. Disney hasn't been able to find any non-union swans willing to work for them.

I can see that happening. I wish people wouldn't throw their money into the moat. It's harmfull for the ducks also! That's the other thing i wish people stop feeding the ducks bread from Pacific Warf Bakery!

I took this on one of the STII AP preview days. The turtle was sunning itself on the banks of the moat for a while before it headed back into the water.

Jeez if I had to guess, I'd say maybe they were poisoned by all the coloring and chemicals in every body of water on Disney property. Not trying to be cynical but the overly chemical treated and unnaturally colored water has always grossed me out.

Yeah, pennies are not going to affect ducks or swans even if they decided to eat them-which they won't, unless they got stuck in the esophagus. The copper in pennies is inert. Copper sulphate would do a good job on killing algae and may tickle a frog or two, but even that wouldn't do much to a swan unless you dropped a pint down its gullet.

According to my cousin, who was an imagineer at multiple parks for over 3 decades until his retirement, pennies in water have been an issue since the early 80's. It was at that time that pennies were made with a zinc core. Aquatic birds in the park have, since day one, tended to eat the occaisional coin dropped into the water. Birds which ingest zinc-core pennies have gotten sick and sometimes died from zinc poisoning.

However, that might not have anything to do with the current lack of swans. I last remember seeing a swan around November or December of 2010. Honestly, I jsut haven't noticed if they've been there since, or are purposefully absent.
