I am very excited today. In just a couple of short hours, I am being visted by architect Alfred Nicholson. Al was part of Weber & Nicholson, the firm that designed and built all three towers at the Disneyland Hotel, the Monorail platform and lounge, the Plaza Building, the Marina, the convention center (1972 & 1983) plus a whole host of other amenities at the Disneyland Hotel. Al started with the Wrather Corporation in early 1961 and the story on how Jack Wrather met the architectural firm is simply amazing. I'll save that one for another posting. Here is a shot of Al at the 1965 groundbreaking for the Tower Annex project which doubled the size of the first Tower. Mr. Nicholson is the gentleman holding the shovel in the picture with business partner I. Kurt Weber to Al's right in the white suit jacket. Al will be 90 years young this October. Mr. Weber is in his late 80's as well. BTW-Al has told me he is bringing a car load of Hotel memorabilia which I will of course share with you all in future postings.
