    Re: 1960's Disneyland Hotel-early photoshop?

I am very excited today. In just a couple of short hours, I am being visted by architect Alfred Nicholson. Al was part of Weber & Nicholson, the firm that designed and built all three towers at the Disneyland Hotel, the Monorail platform and lounge, the Plaza Building, the Marina, the convention center (1972 & 1983) plus a whole host of other amenities at the Disneyland Hotel. Al started with the Wrather Corporation in early 1961 and the story on how Jack Wrather met the architectural firm is simply amazing. I'll save that one for another posting. Here is a shot of Al at the 1965 groundbreaking for the Tower Annex project which doubled the size of the first Tower. Mr. Nicholson is the gentleman holding the shovel in the picture with business partner I. Kurt Weber to Al's right in the white suit jacket. Al will be 90 years young this October. Mr. Weber is in his late 80's as well. BTW-Al has told me he is bringing a car load of Hotel memorabilia which I will of course share with you all in future postings.

Wow, great information. I hope someday I'll be able to stay at the Disneyland Hotel and really take in the history of the building. Hope to hear more from you in the near future about your meeting.
"Up" is a relative concept. It has no intrinsic value.

I love the history of the DLH and thanks for posting this. What a great trip back in time looking at that photo.

I now have a complete set of Bonita Tower blueprints. This is architectural, mechanical, plumbing, facilities and electrical and these are original large format blueprints. I also have a new batch of Marina Tower lobby photographs in beautiful color and actual design drawings of the tapestries and interior decor for the 1970 Tower and lobby from the original artist. I'll post a picture of Al here shortly.

I've got some incredible new (old) photographs from my visit with Al Nicholson. I am scanning now and will be posting a bit later today. I may create a new posting.

    That's very interesting!

In this picture, though, what are the poles sticking out at the top of the building? They seem like they could hold a sign, like the sign was down for maintenance, or are they for something else?

I missed this thread when you originally posted it. You bring such interesting info, thanks!

In the original two photo, it looks like the people were touched up as well. Their clothing is so bright with good contrast compared to the bushes behind. Especially compare the waiter and the plants directly behind him.

    Can't wait for the blueprints!
