    Tell your engagement stories

I'm sure this has been done before, but what the hey! If you've gotten engaged at Disneyland, let's hear the story.

One late afternoon in August, 1995, I led my girlfriend up to the Disney Gallery that was then above Pirates. Out on the courtyard I dropped to one knee and popped the question. I had to have her repeat her answer, just to make sure I heard correctly.

Now, we're about to celebrate our 15th anniversary in a few weeks. There's been ups and downs, but I guess Disney dreams can come true.

I've told this one on the board several time, and though not exactly an engagement story I think it still fits your theme.
Way back when the ranch house at the 'Circle D' was fiirst opened, the piano inside the house was still unlocked and functioning. It was way out of tune and had several dead notes. My girlfriend and I would stop by the house on our dates and I would pop open the keyboard and serenade her with songs I had written her.
We've been together now for 25 years, married for 13, and have a 10 year old. I get wistful every time we visit or walk past the old ranch house.

    Re: Tell your engagement stories

Here's my daughter's engagement story I wrote for another site:

Those of you that know who I am know that I have been known for *very* longs TRs in the past. This one will be short, in comparrision, and really just focus on one day in particular.

Youngest DD and I arrived Monday Oct 25th. Checked into DLH and headed to DL for a 2:30 PS at Cafe O. Had dinner at A's and and saw WoC.

Tuesday we enjoyed the parks and then the Halloween Party. We had breakfat at Minnie and Me and my DD had a long conversation with the Fairy Godmother. The FGM asked her what she wished for and she told her an emerald cut 1.5c diamond ring. LOL FGM told her she wasn't "her" FGM but she'd try and face book hers. It was pretty funny. We also had the opportunity to meet a very lovely family that posts here on MP.

Wed. DD's BF flew in. He had told her he wanted to come out for a few days as he had never been to DL before. While that was true there was more to his coming out to DL than he told her. He enjoyed the parks with us on Wed and Thurs. We were gifted VIP seating for WoC and that was awesome!!!

Thurs AM I got a call from my older DD, who had just been at DL with me last month. My 60th birthday was the next day and she called to tell me what her present to me was for my 60th. She and her BF were flying into So Cal to be with me on my bday and spend the weekend with us!!!!!!

Friday Oct 29th I turned 60. Youngest DD, her boyfriend and I headed into DL for a MM. Had breakfast at TTerrace went on SM and Buzz. My DD's fave place in DL is Snow White's Grotto so we headed there because her BF *just happened* to mention she had not shown him her most favorite spot at DL yet.

Time for a little backstory........ I have been taking my children to DL since they were 1 and 3. They are now 25 and 27. My youngest would ALWAYS want to go to SW's Grotto and throw coins in the well and then proclaim "some day a boy is going ask me to marry him right here".

As I was planing our Mother Daughter trip her BF came to me and asked if he could join us on our vacation for a few days. I told him of course then he simply said I also want to make her dream come true and propose to her at that Wishing Well. He asked me for her hand in marriage, I said yes and he booked his flight for Oct.

I had done some preplanning for their special day when I was at DLR in Sept. Here is how the Magic went down........

As we rounded the corner from TL to the front of the castle I noticed there was no Photo Pass photog at the Well so I told the kids to head up to the Well as I was going to grab a soda. I hightailed it to the front of the castle and grabbed a photo pass person and said, "Wishing Well Magical Moment now", she looked at me asked if I had arranged for a 10AM magical moment I said yes and she RAN to the Well. As it turned out my watch was a little fast and so the kids got to the well at 10 min to 10 rather than 10. I was right behind the photog. We made it to the Well just as her BF was telling her to close her eyes, throw a coin in the well and make a wish. As she did that he dropped to one knee pulled the ring out of his pocket and when she opened her eyes he proposed. The photo pass person was snapping pictures like crazy and I was trying not to bawl like baby and take some pictures too!

After some tears of happiness, congrats from on lookers and getting my photo pass card scanned with the pictures, I pulled a Wedding Minnie headband and just engaged buttons from my purse got the newly engaged couple looking newly engaged and escorted them to SBC for a private cruise, complete with bubbles! From there they were escorted by a CM to TTown where they had a private meeting with MM and lots more pictures. From there it was a water side table at BB for lunch. After lunch we headed back to DLH to meet my other DD and her BF. When we got to the room on the kids bed was confetti, balloons, a sliver wedding frame and bride and groom mugs courtesy of DLH. We met up with my other DD and her BF and the kids went for drinks at the Uva Bar before we headed back to DL. When they got back to DLH to change into their costumes for the halloween party the hotel had sent them sparkling cidar and tuxedo chocolate dipped strawberries and my other DD had brought champagne.

We headed to Big Thunder Barbque for dinner but had to stop at SBC to thank the CM that had arranged the private cruise and meeting with MM. When we got to her attraction she gave the kids his and hers MM watches and autographed character pics with congrats from the Fab Five. She also gave me a MM watch for my 60th.

After a wonderful dinner at BTB we enjoyed the Halloween party till closing.

The next morning my now future SIL flew back to Chicago and the rest of us stayed at DLR through Sun Oct 31st mid day. We had more wonderful meals, did Riverside seating for F! and just had an absolute blast.

On our final day we stopped back at the PI and my DD was able to talk to the FGM she had talked to on Tues. The FGM was thrilled she got her 1.5 c emerald cut and I got awesome pictures of the two of them together.

I've been going to DL since 1956. I've been taking my children to DL since 1986. Oct 29th 2010 was the most magical day I have ever had at DL. Dinners at Club 33, backstage tours, or penthouse suites can't hold a candle to the magic and happiness I felt Oct 29th 2010.

    Tom, INCREDIBLE story! very cute!

I love reading everyone's engagements stories! I posted mine in another thread last week, let me go track it down... BE RIGHT BACK!

    Ok. found it!!

In October 2009, my wife (then girlfriend) and I met up with my family in Disneyland. As per our usual family tradition, we went and got a family photo in front of the castle. I asked if my girlfriend and I could get one of our own. While we got in place, my mom had whispered to have him suggest we take one like I was proposing. She instantly got awkward and said "wait... what?" and looked over at me, but I was already kneeling (PS: I was so nervous and shaking so bad the ring fell out of the ring box, and the Photopass CM picked it up and gave it back to me!) She literally was running laps around the compass rose, yelling ARE YOU SERIOUS!? ARE YOU SERIOUS!?, then ran into and knocked me over.

The Photopass CM was truly spectacular. I wish I could put up his name and give credit where credit is due, but I know it is against MC rules. He took about 60 candid photos of the event, each of them as good as the next! Everytime we go to the Parks, we look for him, and end up talking to him for about 10 mins. And most of the time he convinces whatever character he might be with to give us some extra time

This is my happiest memory at DIsneyland!

PS: We have been happily married for one year, and have a beautiful 10 month old daughter Her favorite ride is IASW

    Re: Tell your engagement stories

    Here's our story...

Back in Nov of 2006 my girlfriend (pet name Tink) and I were visiting the resort. I had purchased the ring back home in Oregon, and the jeweler who had made it and knew what I had in mind, challenged me when I picked it up that I wouldn't be able to wait to get to Disneyland to give it to her. I just smiled back at him and thought to myself..."ring secured, part one of the plan in place, and you just don't know me very well."

Next I contacted my sister who was also planning to visit the resort at the same time, and to see if she would do a little videography for me. She was excited and said "of course I will," so now part two was in place.

Tink and I arrived in Southern California the week of Thanksgiving, and was the park ever crowded! But, part three was to do the proposal at the proper time and proper place.

We had lunch the next day with friends who used to work at the park, and then after lunch as we were heading down Main Street to see them off, we stopped at the Disneyana store on Main Street (since we are Disney collectors), and there part three of the plan fell comfortably into place.

My sister started videoing around the shop, as I beckoned Tink to come stand by the large statuary known as Bandleader Mickey. She stood next to Mickey, I stood next to her, and the videocam swung around to capture us, and the proposal was made, catching Tink completely off guard! She took it all in, processed it for a moment and then...

    Tink said YES!

The store Cast Members applauded, our friends hugged us, and even strangers standing nearby, when they realized what was going on, congratulated us. It was pure magic!

And, almost one year later Tink and I were married. Our pastor, just after pronouncing us husband and wife, paused, then asked "so now that you're married, what are you going to do now?" and we playfully looked at each other and shouted to our friends and family gathered, "we're going to Disneyland!" And that's where we spent our honeymoon, the Happiest Place on Earth!

Sadly, the Bandleader Mickey is no longer standing there in the shop, but I'm thankful our marriage is still standing strong after nearly 4 years.
    Always remember the Disney Magic!

    Re: Tell your engagement stories

Ours is well known around here, full thread started day of located "Sunnygirl will you marry me?". Here is my wife's (sunnygirl) account from that thread of the day.
We got to DL early in the morning (like 9:30ish) and headed to River Belle for breakfast. Afterwards, I had to go use the ladies room so we went to the restroom in New Orleans Square, back by the train. Once I emerged, he told me he wanted to take a picture over by the staircase.

He ducked into the Christmas shop and asked a CM to take our picture, and then he came up to me, dropped to one knee, and asked me to marry him. His hands were shaking SO bad. Naturally, I said yes.

Afterwards, he tells me that a bunch of our friends are waiting for us at the Hearthstone Lounge. I was so surprised. We went over there to meet up with Stinkerbell and her family, Dmom and her family, Kylelicious, justjohn and the lovely simplysabrina, MissChristine, Grumpy4, Villains Fan, and PixieChick with PixieKid. It was perfect, I was just floored to be able to celebrate with the people we love.

A little bit later, Anders tells me he's going to the restroom, and he'll be right back. He was gone a really long time, I was like, "Anyone know where the heck my fiancee is?" He came back, beaming, and told me we were staying the night at the Grand Californian! I was like, "But I don't have any clothes!" and he was like, "Oh yes you do!" He even packed a bag for me.

Our room was beautiful, on the concierge level with the best view of DCA. We got to use the concierge lounge, which was pretty nice, and the CMs were all so wonderful to us.

We headed to CoveBar to have some drinks to celebrate our engagement and G4's birthday, but after an hour or so I was so exhausted I asked to go back to our room to nap a bit. Yeah, right, I laid down when Anders went to get the car and I couldn't sleep a wink.

When he got back with my bag, I was amazed to find he had thought of EVERYTHING. Brand new sexy stuff from Victoria's Secret, as well as brand new flannel jammies (also from VS), all new toiletries including a delicious Caramel scented lotion & body spray, and the most awesome thing ever, Hello Kitty slippers! I about died when I saw them. After that, he took me shopping at Sephora to get new makeup to wear that night and Sunday morning. (Is it any wonder I love this man?)

We had dinner at the Storyteller's Cafe (the filet mignon was to DIE for.) then went to ride the ferris wheel at DCA (the first ride we went on on our first real date). Once we were done there, we headed to DL to catch fireworks, which were cancelled, but we did have a lovely snowfall on Main St.

I can't even convey to you all how wonderfully romantic and perfect it was. Best. Weekend. Ever.
On a side note, our one-month-old son made his first ever trip to Disneyland Saturday and went to his first ever MiceChat meet on Sunday!

    Re: Tell your engagement stories

Haven't been so fortunate to hear one, but I have experienced one once, over by the wishing well as my friends and I approached a kneeling couple. We all erupted in applause, really awesome to be part of such a special moment.

Also a week ago before WOC there MIGHT have been one on the bridge, as I glanced up from the blue viewing area where applause and cheering were heard and I saw a couple hug, but I couldn't have been too sure.

    Re: Tell your engagement stories

I put my proposal in a build-a-bear (I hid it in the foot and recorded a fake one in the hand). We went to take a picture in front of the castle and I told her that the bear said something else.

I wanted her to have the proposal forever.
This is my signature. There are many like it but this one is mine.

    Re: Tell your engagement stories

I put up my proposal story somewhere else... I'll find it eventually.... BUT i thought I might tell a funny proposal story?

I went to DL for my bachlorette and we all went to see WOC (for my first time!) and we did the boxed food thing and we got really good seats... once the show started and everyone stood up (we were sitting on the ground eating like savages because we were starving!) and my friend is rather short and the guy in front of us was rather tall ... my friend is used to these situations and found a "crack" around the guy and could see the show still.... but he kept fidgeting! She was getting soo annoyed with him. Well the villians scene comes up (with mufasa and scar... it's the only time I saw it and that was in Feb.) and right when scar throws mufasa off the cliff... the guy in front of us PROPOSES! two seconds later the water goes all white and its the cinderella scene! I couldnt help but laugh! clearly he was nervous(hence his constant movement) and had never really seen the show to know what was coming up..... I had an extra just engaged button (I was collecting the different just married type buttons on my trip and had gotten that one again) so I gave it to them... but I will always remember the guy who proposed while Mufasa died.... lol

    Re: Tell your engagement stories

I think it's amazing that there are so many of us who have done this!

My story in a nutshell (I've also posted this before):

Summer of 1989, I went to a recording studio that one of my friends had set up and recorded my proposal as a song. My best friend then took the song, the ring, and my stereo and set them up in a room that I had reserved in the Disneyland hotel. He was also in charge of getting the roses, etc.

So my wife (okay...now you know she said yes) and I spent most of the day at Disneyland, most of which I can't remember too clearly as i was so nervous, and some time around 6 pm or so, I said we should visit a friend who was staying in the hotel. She didn't like this idea at all, and was very irritated that we had to give up time at the park to go and visit one of my friends. When we arrived at the hotel room, I knocked, my friend opened the door, handed me the key, and left. I played my song on the stereo, and the actual last two words were "Will you?" Fortunately, she cried and said yes, and I gave her the ring, and we ordered room service for dinner.

This was in the Sierra Tower facing the park, and I had intentionally booked a room here as I wanted to see the fireworks after dinner, and this was back when you could open the sliding doors and see them over the rail.

Still one of the best memories of my life, and one of the many reasons that Disneyland is still so special to me. The only other Disneyland Day that might have been better was on our 5th anniversary when we were surprised to find that another friend had booked us into the Honeymoon Suite in the Sierra Tower and we had reservations to Club 33. BOTH of those days were pure magic.

    Re: Tell your engagement stories

Though not at Disneyland, I proposed to my girlfriend recently, after her initial excitement, she said, "We should go to Disneyland for our honeymoon." I immediately knew that I'm going to be marrying the perfect person!
