New Entrance for California Adventure - Disappointed!

Am I the only one who is disappointed in the new entrance to DCA? Nothing about it screams "unique" to me. It looks like a carbon copy of the entrance to Disney's Hollywood Studios at WDW. Is this the best that Imagineering could do?Name: Disney_California_Adventure_New_Entrance.jpg

I haven't seen it in person yet, but I like the art deco styling of it. And just because its the same as another Disney park isn't a problem for me personally. Disney frequently recreated things across multiple parks.

I like it, but I'd like to see something truly unique for us, and not in the style of another park's, even if it isn't a carbon copy.

I dont like it at all. And I am super disappointed that they took out the Golden Gate Bridge.

I think I'll have to see what is behind entrance with Buena Vista St before making a final judgement. It may be perfect for what they have in mind. As it stands now, it's a definite improvement but seems like it could have been better. As a design principle, I had always heard that groupings of similar features, in this case the towers on top of entrance, worked better in odd numbers - 3's or 5's. Something about being more pleasing to the eye. With the new front entrance, I believe there are 4 towers on top.

I don't think of it so much as a copy of the FL one as much as that FL stole a CA land mark as its entrance. I look at the new CA Adventure entrance as bringing this back where it belongs.

The new entrance is nice. The first time I passed through the new gate, it actually felt like I was entering a Disney park... Until I saw the yet-to-be removed Golden Gate. I always thought of the bridge and the entire postcard look as very gimmicky and non-Disney. Can't wait till it's gone and Buena Vista Street is complete!

Re: New Entrance for California Adventure - Disappointed!

My only concern, based purely on the photos I've seen, is that the name of the park seems set too low and/or too far back, making it all but impossible to see the bottom portion of the letters. Can anybody confirm whether or not this is actually how it appears in person?

The new gates look amazing. A billion times nicer than those ugly concrete letters.

^The letters where my favorite thing. Other then the removal of them I don't mind the new entrance. I just wish they would put them somewhere in the park, like the Hollywood sign. Example: Let's say they had built a mountain behind CS, they could put them there and make it look like the Hollywood sign but say CALIFORNIA.

Seriously people! Get a grip. They are trying to fix the park without destroying it and I think they are doing a good job so far. I'm not one of those people who loves everything Disney does and i am critical in alot of areas but I have to give them credit where credit is due. I'm withholding any judgment until they are finished. They look nice and I'm pretty sure the average guest wont care if it is a clone as long as it looks good.

Just got back from our trip and I think the new gates look amazing! Was sad to see the bridge slowing disappearing during our stay but excited to see the new look.

    That's a terrible argument.

You're saying that when Hollywood Studios opened 20+ years ago, they should have not built a thematically significant turnstyle because years and years later, someone would be stupid enough to decide to build a park with the theme of California? Really? So DHS should change their entire turnstyles cause it "belongs" in a miserably-themed California park?
