Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade
I know it's a bit early to talk about Christmas :p but has anyone been to either WDW or DL during the filming of the Christmas day parade? I have been watching it every year since 2006 and I was hoping that since this is the first year I have an AP I would try going. I know that Disney doesn't make an official announcement with dates and such but I knew they usually film in November.
If you've been there on one of those days what's it like? Any tips? :]
please and thanks!
Re: Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade
It's not too early to talk about Christmas. Ever heard of Christmas in July? I'm already working on my cards! :)
Sorry, I don't actually have anything helpful to say.
Re: Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade
Based on previous years, my guess would be Nov 12/13 for the filming in Disneyland. Please note, it's not a lot of fun. Lots of equipment that gets in the way of your pictures, crowds, hard to get around, in some cases, its almost gridlock. It doesn't flow smoothly at all. We've been there for two November tapings and decided DCA is a better place to be or get beyond the Main St taping areas toward the back of the park and stay there till their done. It will look much better on TV. It's all in the editing. Just a personal opinion.

Yeah I expect it to be kind of boring and crowded and not as cool as it is on TV but I still want to go for the experience and just to say I was there when it airs :]

I don't think they will get an entirely new parade since they just added new floats to the Christmas Fantasy. Plus I love this one so hopefully it doesn't change :] althought I'd love to see new floats for the new characters!
Re: Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade
I always thought it was live...

Last year, it was taped on November 7th (day 8 of our 10 day DLR Honeymoon). We were on the Tomorrowland side of the hub. The crowd was lighter in this area and we got lots of good video/pics of the performers and floats.
The "doesn't flow smoothly" part I concur with. There are many starts and stops as the each float has to make its way down Main Street (in addition to framing shots, etc.).
It was a neat behind-the-scences experience (this was the first for both of us to have any Christmas festivities at DL) but I wouldn't make a second trip specifically for it.
Re: Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade
Some years they have done the taping of the DL portion during the 1st and 2nd weekends in November. I believe the last couple of years they've done it the first full weekend in November (when the Tree isn't up (because they place a camera on Christmas Tree Point for taping. ) Then they place the tree up and finish the taping a day or two later. The last couple of years it appears that they may have juggled the schedule around whoever is the tv host from DL. They also have contingency plans in case of rain, on the originally scheduled taping day, although I don't think the weather has been much of an issue for taping.
There are usually two special musical performers or groups, also. They often set up two different stages for the musical performers. With taping of one group early in the day, and taping the 2nd performer a couple hours later. Just who the special guests are is kept pretty tight lipped, your lucky to find out the day before, usually not know until the day of taping. One of the guests is usually some Disney Channel tween star, the other is usually a well established musical group or icon.
I always enjoy DL whenever something special is going on, just be aware that it will likely cut into what the normal atmosphere and schedules usually are at DL.
Just do a search for topics, or look back at the Weekly Round ups for the first couple of weeks of November, as topics covering the Christmas Day Parade taping are highlighted. Often those topics include videos of parts of the parade and the musical performers.
Re: Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade
I was there last year for the taping and I had an amazing time. That could just be me though. While it's definitely a different experience and a repetitive one (especially if you're seeing the talent perform) I think that it's 100% worth it.
There actually wasn't a ton of people, it was a slower day in the park. But it's tons of fun! And don't forget to wear your Christmas attire!
Merry Christmas!
Re: Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade
Thank you for this thread! Basically if your interested in the production of TV shows (like myself) you will love it. But if your expecting half of what you see on TV as a casual park guest, then you might not enjoy it at all. It's still fun to see the bits and peices they film cut together in the final show.
Merry Christmas in July!
Re: Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade
I was there for the 2009 and 2010 taping of the Christmas special. Demi Lovato performed on main street in 2009 and Selena Gomez last year in front of the castle.
I've been to a lot of taping show probably 20 shows here in L.A my recent taping of a show was X-Factor and The Voice trust me you must be very patience because filming can take forever not counting 1-2 hours waiting in line to get into the studio.
here are some of the videos I recorded.

Re: Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade
I want to dance with Goofy!
Side Note: Since Disney Parks no longer exists, who thinks that the parade should be moved to Disneyland and WDW have the side parade with it's dopey hard ticket parade that doesn't even look good at daytime?
Re: Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade
My friend and I actually usually plan our trip during this time. We are not interested in the parade or the musical acts - we take advantage of going to DL during this time because everyone ELSE is watching those things. Thus, the lines for rides are often much shorter during the filming. People are enjoying the parade and performances and we are enjoying the rides. It's a win-win all around.

I don't care about the waiting or the patience. I just want to be able to be there and see it all happen. :]
Question, how did you know which day it was going to be filmed?
