MARVEL Superhero Theme Park--Third Gate Idea

^ I think that kind of Disneyfication of Marvel characters/Marvelization of Disney characters is exactly the kind of kitsch that would confuse Disney customers, turn off Marvel fans, and backfire bigtime.

I don't understand why anyone thinks it's necessary for Disney to mashup Disney and Marvel characters so that customers know that Marvel "is Disney." They didn't dress up Mickey as Buzz Lightyear or Donald as Sheriff Woody -- why in the world would anyone want them to do it to the Marvel characters?

I agree that I don't think they should mishmash the two worlds together but I think used sparingly i.e. not a meet n greet or everyday occurance that having the big 5 characters dressed as marvel heros would be a nice addition. I think it works well when they do it with Star Wars and your arguement would work just as well for that world.

I will 100% agree that the worst thing that Disney can do is to turn off the Marvel fan base as that would kill the very idea of using the Marvel world as a third gate.

That's why my view is that the best thing Disney can do with a Marvel theme park presence is place it in a third gate -- less from my (admittedly strong) concern that Marvel-in-Disneyland will dilute the Disneyland experience, and more that it will set a precedent for Disnefying (read "dumbing down") the Marvel experience.

A separate self-contained land would be sufficient like... Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Heck, I already thought a Star Wars Land is what WDW needs to counter Harry Potter, but this isn't to be.

Marvel is very much about its characters. The world in which the characters inhabit is undeveloped. Just look at what Universal's IOA done with their version of Marvel Land. It isn't much. Disney can certainly take it a step further and create an universe where the characters can be at home. It shouldn't have to be a modern cityscape with New York style buildings. How about a far away planet?

The point of my 'idea' actually was to incorporate them into real-life places because the comics and movies take place very much in the real world. In Disneyland, New Orleans Square is a romanticized version of a real place--BVS will be, from what I understand, a place inspired by real-life but through Walt Disney's eyes. So this park, hopefully, would continue the theme of real-life places with a different take on them. Of course, I'm not saying this is the idea to end all ideas, but just a thought and I wanted to justify it.

I think a new park is a long way off. We will probably see an attraction of some sort, be it a ride, show, or character meet in an existing park sooner.
