Well, glad to know we have plenty of naysayers here who insist that something cannot be done.

I take it you've never stood in line for Soarin' on a busy day. Trust me, it's as long as it will ever be right now. Plus the type of 180 Degree Imax screen is unsuitable for 3d. That is one of reasons the Simpson's ride was not rendered in 3D at Universal.

Yeah, OK, thanks for letting me know my idea is stupid and worthless and a waste of time and can't be done.

Wow, relax. Not one person said your idea was stupid or any other thing of the sort. What people ARE saying is that certain things are either impractical or just won't work. I want a transporter like on Star Trek, but that can't be done, either.

I, too, would love a 20 minute, 3D Soarin. But the line is brutally slow already, and 20 minutes would make the line 3 or 4 times slower than it already is, which would make it a nightmare. Not feasible.

3D is another story. It could be done with the screen currently the way it is, but not with a circlevision screen because the ride vehicles purposely limit your vision to straight ahead.

Except for the added length, I think this is a great idea. Besides line waits, re-rideability would decrease with such a long ride, and there is such a thing as 'too much of a good thing'.

But I think with a quick update they could make every rider pick up Flight Safety Goggles (real hangliders wear protection from the wind so this makes sense). The rims could be thick and the actual part you wear on the sides (I can't think of the word) would completely shield your peripherals. That way, all you see is what the lens is looking at right in front of you. Heck, you could even shade the tops a little bit to hide feet from the second and third levels. Then, you'd have a truly immersive flight.

I also think that if they were to update Soarin, they could add temperatures with the scenes--hot air blows out in the desert, cold in Lake Tahoe, etc. All that would make one very cool ride IMO

I absolutely disagree with both lengthening the "ride time", and with turning it into ANOTHER 3D glasses attraction.

When Toy Story Midway Mania opened with the need for 3D glasses, I was practically fed up with the use of those things on too many attractions already. Just recently, Star Tours was converted to another 3D glasses attraction. UGGGGGG, enough is enough.

For the record, I wish this attraction were longer also. Twenty minutes is too long though. However, I would love for Disney to add scenes and give it a 10 minute running time. 3-D is unnecessary, as is circle-vision. I imagine that, sometime in the future, it might be converted to 3-D.

If I'm not mistaken, Disney has a rule or conducted a study that determined that no attraction should run longer than 11 minutes.

I say remove Soarin' and put in an original Dark Ride.

They're changing it to Soarin' Over the World. I think that'll be fine for EPCOT but what how will it work for DCA? It's just suppose to be about California.

This is an original ride. People always complain that Disney does not do original rides anymore. Why would you want to remove one, and a popular one at that. If this would be taken out there will be all kinds of "bring back" threads on here, just like the Peoplemover.

I'd vote for no change mostly because I feel like no-one could ever adequately render a score comparable to Jerry Goldsmith's current one (any any change in the video would require such a change in the score)

It would never be replaced, way too popular, and even more popular at EPCOT. It does need a new film though. A couple of minutes longer would be fine but not 20 minutes. I just wonder if they could create digital films and rotate them kind of like Star Tours that way you have the chance to see something a little different each time.

The only change that I think should be required at the moment is to make the projection digital. The way the film has gotten grainy is absolutely horrendous.

Agreed. Being able to see the edges already breaks the illusion, and the graininess makes it even worse. How difficult could it be to take the film, remaster it, and put it up again? They probably wouldn't even need to shut it down. It would be an overnight deal.
