They usually do film the Christmas Parade segments around this time. I was at the park earlier today and saw they had some sets up for it. I think they maybe filming tomorrow.

Not this early. Usually they film mid-month, like between the 15th-20th.

The live caroling group that performs on Main Street also does traditional, Christian carols. Here's the group singing "What Child Is This", a classic carol about the Baby Jesus in the manger on Christmas morning.

So... yeah. They don't do Christmas Carols in Fantasyland because the group is already busy on Main Street. They'd just need to rework their set times, or hire more singers to get Christmas Carols into Fantasyland or around the snow-covered castle.
Awesome! That's refreshing to hear. I know they do the Candlelight Vigil thing but didn't know about the carolers singing Christmas carols which are actually about baby Jesus being born.

    Is that really necessary?

I know Disney is all about fairy tales, but that's a little much.

Yea I agree. I Dont think its a good idea for Disney to start infusing religion into its parks. Celebrate the holidays in a 'commercial secular' way, there is no need for Jesus songs on Main St.

This a sensitive subject to some and it's a topic that is better to be avoided on here.

This wouldn't be something Disney is starting, but something that has been there for a long time. "Religious" Christmas songs have been playing at the parks for a long time, this is nothing new. What would be new if Disney stopped playing these songs.

That would also anger a lot of people. In my opinion, some of the most beautiful Christmas songs are the religious ones.

Its just unnecessary, all references to religious details (ie: jesus etc) should be avoided at Disneyland. Like you admitted in your post, its a sensitive subject. So why should Disney get involved in that type of thing? leave ALL religion out of the parks and you wont offend anyone. Once you start allowing songs about Jesus then you open the door to other religions wanting to be represented, its just a slippery slope thats not worth it.

One of the points I was trying to make is that Disneyland already does and has been for many, many years been playing "religious" Christmas songs. This wouldn't be something they would be starting but continuing.

...You know, I'm not a religious person, more spiritual than anything, but these songs are just Christmas and they have and always will be associated with a holiday that, despite its more commercial and "national/world" holiday status now, inadvertently started as a religious celebration. It's unavoidable to celebrate Christmas without having some type of religious connotations somewhere as most of the traditions are seeped in the religion. Even Santa has roots in religion. Like I said, unavoidable. These songs have ALWAYS been a part of Christmas and Christmas at Disneyland and it's at a point now where it's kinda a moot point. Like I said I'm not religious but I enjoy the songs for what they are, nice and enjoyable songs that remind me of the holidays and I think many feel the same way. Heck I have many Jewish friends who could care less if Disneyland is all Christmas and almost no Hanukkah (except a menorah in a window and the dreidel song during the fireworks). Honestly things like this are non issues with the majority and only pushed by people who are overly sensitive to these things IMO. They've already renamed it Holiday time at Disneyland which is fine but it's like how far do you go...you eliminate a LOT of songs and traditions that are so embedded in the holiday aura if you do that you know.

I'm mainly speaking on behalf of younger children who don't celebrate Christmas. I'm Jewish, and I remember feeling left out this time of year when I was younger. From experience, those types of references can be excluding to young children.

Does Disney have a backup plan for the recording going on today? I don't beleive they would be filming during the rain, would they?

No, no filming today. Not only is it a safety hazard for the performers, but it ruins the illusion of the entire parade being filmed live on Christmas Day. As someone else mentioned, it would look obviously fake if it was sunny and they cut to a scene with rain pouring down.
