Re: Disneyland Resort Project Tracker 3

I wonder if those tours by Disney executives almost a year ago were because Disney knew Universal was looking into Potter on this coast. I like to think it was proactive though.

No, they were not influenced by Potter. WDI has had blue sky plans for different parts of Disneyland for years now, but only the current P&R management has really let them start to take strides toward the future of the Park. Potter coming to Universal Hollywood was a relatively new and quick decision. Once the idea was pitched, it was greenlit almost immediately.

I think it was logical to assume Potter was coming to California at some point in time.

I've read some rumors on here about something being planned for the 60th anniversary. But I think Tomorrowland is in more need of a new e-ticket ride than Frontierland is. But it will be interesting to see what Disney comes up with for both lands in the near future.

awesome! thanks a lot. my three random guesses for when it might be announced are
    1. new years
    2. right after universal's 100 year announcement where we'll pry get more potter details
    3. or after the marketing machine dies down for carsland maybe in sept??

Me too! I got to see it prior to being installed. It was nicely created. I would LOVE it if they sold a replica.

For a major attraction to open before 2015. They need to get started on demo and construction by sometime this spring/summer. WDI usually takes three years to build this things and that would put an attractions opening for spring summer 2015

Nope. There was a plan for a Tron attraction to replace Innoventions. It's since been scrapped for something much better.

Disney has been planning a massive E-ticket for Tomorrowland, as well as a total Tomorrowland overhaul, before the idea of Potter coming to Hollywood even existed in the heads of USH execs.

TRON is supposedly still in the plans but not for Anaheim.

Just one question: Are we talking another franchise-based idea or no?

I'm fine with "franchise based" as long as the execution is there.

I'm sick of all this love for Tomorrowland!!! Tomorrowland has had dozens of additions, fixes, expansions, revisions and overlays in the last 30 years. Frontierland has gotten none (with exception of the ROA refurb). It's as simple as that. Tomorrowland needs help, there's no question, but eventually you're gonna have to just let your "problem-child" take backseat to the good one who's been waiting patiently. Frontierland's expansion is crucial to the flow of the park and is imperative to the parks capacity. Opening up the several acres in the back will not only open up a pathway past critter country and alleviate the worst gridlock ever, but it'll make things much easier should they start tomorrowland construction later on and need to soak up some of the crowds of the inevitably closed attractions during this time.

What's more critical, fixing a land that is all but completely broken, or fixing up and expanding a land that is still doing relatively ok, as is. TL's only really decent attractions are Space Mountain and BLAB. (I don't really consider the Matterhorn part of TL; Innoventions is a real waste of good space; the 'new' subs ride turned out not to be as good as the original, which was closed for ten years; and Autopia hasn't been 'tomorrow', or even modern, since the 1960's. (Whoops! I did forget Star Tours II. How the heck did I do that?!) Also, TL is littered with artifacts of old, closed attractions and lots of area that has been covered up and wasted to accommodate attractions that were shoe-horned in.

Mind you, I think that using a lot of the currently wasted/idle area to add cool, new stuff to Frontierland should be a high priority for Disney, just not as high a priority as fixing TL. One thing to consider is that Frontierland can get away with looking old-ish - in some ways, it's supposed to look old, but TL looking like the halfway-abandoned set from a 1070's sci-fi movie makes it's flaws stand out starkly.

Good points! However, what is the point of having one part of the park be absolutely amazing while other parts are awful? Disney wants to crush potter and they aren't going to do it with Tomorrowland being such a sore spot. But i see your point. The park needs capacity to increase and there is not a whole lot of room in Tomorrowland to do it. In Frontierland however there is plenty of room if Circle D goes away.

And I would rank Star Tours over BLAB 1000:1
