I don't think this is not "rip-off" of test track. I heard that it will be an up-to-date Test Track-type system. It's like the omnimover system. It's been used many times since it's invention.

That was a different time though. Today costs are much higher, and working new elements into the resort presents a larger challange. The gains they would make with such an addition wouldn't pay off.

This is the point that those who argue the 60's vs now comparissons always leave out. Cost has increased exponentially. It cost $17 million to build Disneyland in 1955. Radiator Springs Racers supposedly cost upwards of $300 million! Even with inflation Disneyland only cost roughly $125 million to build with today's dollars. Not to say that profits haven't also gone up but spending $100 million is not and never has been a small matter, much less $1 billion! Disney has the money but the amount of capital that can be tied up in an e-ticket is enormous. I'm not saying Disney has excuses but there is a good reason as to why we don't see an e-ticket every 2 years like they did in the 60's.

For those who are interested, I managed to record the full preview of Cars Land video at the Blue Sky Cellar.

I don't know the name of the video that is being played on the big screen:

Here's another video showing the model of Cars Land.

I think the costs might actually be surprisingly similar. It is very hard to do a cost to cost comparison because purchasing power and many other things are so drastically different now. Overall, the cost was huge back then. However, the complexity of the systems needed to design and build a computer heavy, robotic-ly programmed, high tech e-ticket like RSR is a very different challenge compared to what building the Matterhorn was. Don't get me wrong, doing the Matterhorn was a huge undertaking that was revolutionary for it's time, but it was a design problem that could be done with clever engineering and ingenuity that doesn't exist in the same way today. Now it takes brute force, time consuming calculations as well as a drastic management of numerous sub-trades, outsourced parts and other complexities.

Basically, back then the design was the problem, but it was Disney's wholly owned problem to embrace. Now the problem is scheduling, budgeting, tweaking and debugging. Different, and seemingly more costly on several levels.

Wow...that Cars Land video. Just wow. I'm speechless. Beautifully made with wonderful stories. And those images and video from the land are just spectacular. Makes me a bit nostalgic and teary eyed for my own memories of road trips and desert adventures. It's gonna be something special :,)

Has anyone else done a ride system like the Flying Tires before? Is it unique to Disney?

Disney had the flying saucers which may have been original in design, Not sure what came between that and this.
