Exclamation Re: Disney California Adventure Project Tracker 12

So I assume than even during peak hours it will be safe to run the Red Trollie. Tome it seems like a bad idea, but I assume they are planning for rush hours.
Also, just finished reading Al's column, good stuff! What amazes me back in the fifties they were able to get the saucers running just fine, fastforward to 2012 with all are technology and we can't get it right. I was thinking maybe the size of the lugi tires is the problem. Looking at pictures of the saucers they were smal and maybe that is the big diffrence. Don't get me wrong I am looking forwar to them, but just wondering aloud!
Just one question for those of you planning on going on opening day what is the draw? Those long A$$ lines are enough to get me to go later in the year or earlier next year. Infact when we go I have a feeling those lines will be short enough that I should become quite a pro on Lugi's Tire ride

Re: Disney California Adventure Project Tracker 12

Some interesting things in Al's new article:

The thinking here is that people entering the park in the morning will first cycle through the new Racers Fastpass area in A Bug’s Land and pull their Fastpass ticket for the day, and then move on to DCA’s other attractions not necessarily in Cars Land. The DCA executive team has all visited The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios Orlando, and they desperately want to avoid the overcrowding and general mayhem that Potterland generates. TDA’s industrial engineering department weighed in and decided that the best way to alleviate crowds was to move the Fastpass distribution machines for the Racers ride outside of the land nearer the park’s main entry path, and the location in A Bug’s Land was perfectly placed for that purpose.

...soon to be a car port...
Visitors to Cars Land this summer will still see the original Racers Fastpass location near the attraction entrance, but the doors will be shut and there are no plans to use it for Fastpass until after this summer or perhaps even after the Christmas season ends in early 2013. So when you visit DCA for the first time after Bob Iger’s rededication speech on June 15th, don’t run into Cars Land looking for Fastpasses for what they are feeling may be the best new E Ticket since Indiana Jones. Instead, remember to veer left off the DCA parade route and into the unusually placed Fastpass distribution area in A Bug’s Land.

This is where you will need to head to.
The unusual placement of Fastpass machines outside of the land, the first time that’s been attempted in a Disney theme park, is just a part of the overall crowd strategy the Anaheim planners are forced to deal with for the opening summer...

The width of the area hasn't changed, but they've added 5 feet of sidewalks on both sides. They've added storefronts under the bridge (translation: lingerers). They've added huge, moving vehicles that will drift back and forth with a stop right at the entrance. Comparing it to Main Street is moot, we're comparing it to it's predecessor.

See, I thought it looks like it could be a tight squeeze when I peeked over the walls. I'm glad everyone with Google Maps is here to tell us we're wrong for having an opinion...again.

    ^^
That seems like a great way to keep people from flooding Carsland when the time comes. I wonder how many people are going to be pissed about running all the way back there for FPs only to be told to hoof it back to bug's land.

Well the width is fact, not opinion. It's as wide or wider than main street.

The opinion part is perception, and since BVS opens with a bit of a widened hub and finished with a hub, I don't see it as a problem. The monorail bridge is no different than the train station bridges, and will act as a revealing gateway to the rest of BVS. Just my opinion.

Nobody's refuting that the width is the different. I even acknowledged that it hasn't changed. My perception is based on what I've witnessed with my very own eyeballs, not from photos or Google Maps.

The original saucers did not work...that's why they were removed so quickly. The new ride has solved the problem of the old ride, but in doing so has changed its excitement. Which is being address by WDI.

As for the draw, im going to be there opening day. But not to ride anything, but sit at the winery, with a glass of wine, and watch the mayhem happen, lol.

I don't think its really worth worrying about, I think it'll be fine and just appears more narrow.

Its a very brief narrowing of paths and I feel the area is meant to look more narrow then the previous open expanse. Besides you can always cut through the shops if it gets too bad

I have heard/read from people who got to ride the original saucers that part of the fun was learning how to make them go. It sounds like from Al's article that the flying tires might do better once the hype dies down and local AP holders get a chance to go and really experiment and see what they can do.

    Al writes
There are 20 extra-large animatronics used in the dark ride portions of Radiator Springs Racers, plus a few less sophisticated figures like the tipping tractors or the HD projections of Flo and Ramone seen through the viewing window of Ramone’s paint booth. No battle robots here! While some of the animatronics use projected mouth or eye effects, some of them have moving parts for their mouth or facial features. Getting all of those characters interacting correctly with each other as your vehicle passes between them is the tricky part, and it’s a software issue that is proving to be a real headache. We’ll keep close to this animatronic story coming from our sources, but it’s not unheard of on big WDI projects like this to see miracles take place in the last 30 days before opening after months of frustration and dead-ends.
Going to be great to see so many large AA figures!

Any one else care to share why they plan on waiting in line on re-opening day. Any plan on being a little less adventerous and waiting til the excitement dies down.

One has to wonder if they will remove the "A Bug's Land" sign along the parade route before the relaunch of the park. Now that RSR's Fastpass is being temporarily relocated, this large sign will only confuse things more for first time visitors.

    . . .plus, it's ugly.

It's Tough to Be a Bug is now the most out-of-place attraction in the entire park. It's just kind of off on it's own, tucked between the Carthay and Carsland. It doesn't feel connected to the rest of Bug's Land at all (closer to Carsland if anything).

I think they will be opening an entrance directly into the Fastpass area from the parade route.

So are we suggesting the Removal of "It is Tough to be a Bug". That is a Bug's Land E ticket attraction. It is also one of my favorites at DCA, but what would go in it's place?
