I don't think the fountain area is going to open until '12 with BVS. The Imagineers explicitly said they wanna reveal it all at once. I mean look at the pump house, it's essentially done and finished with landscaping done by it yet it still remains behind walls. I think BVS is something they don't wanna offer a little peek at, they wanna wait for a big reveal. I mean they're taking the worse entrance to a Disney park (honestly Sunshine Plaza sucked; Americana, The Grove, Fashion Island, Irvine Spectrum, etc...all have better theming and appeal than Sunshine Plaza did) and turning it into a hyper-themed, extensively researched, new generation, and totally unique entrance. That deserves a big reveal.

And TreoFred I'm a bit confused by your post. So was it really all blueprint and approved for El Camino Real?

What I was told is that it was all planned, designed, blueprinted all the way to the wharf from what I understood (and the missing part of the pier too). The Wharf is an issue because of the change in vendors (Ghirardelli is STILL not a go as far as I know, no construction happening there for now...) and this was not the worst themed area of the park to begin with.

The rest is story or history and I've written enough super-giga-maxi-long post for a while . So I'll leave it at that !

I wonder if when they finish the circle fountain, which from pictures looks fairly well along, they will take down the walls around it and open up the circle (even just partially) to make the area seem more open and less confusing. Because from the pictures it kind of looks like just corridors of walls.

I could even see the fountain open and running surrounded by greenery with informational billboards and signs showing concept artwork and the plans for buena vista street. (Yes there is the blue sky cellar, but do you think everyone in the park honestly goes there?)
Well, they already have concept art on the walls of the temporary walkway, I hear (not looking at photos til I go on Thursday), so I think that's enough for now.

I just think if they simply open up the fountain area, that it would solve a lot of confusion people have. Because when you have narrow passageways between walls there are no landmarks, and people are just looking straight ahead and straight ahead there are curved walls...

Opening up the fountain as a "preview area" would spark interest. And alleviate some lost between walls syndromes. And yes there is concept art on the walls in the entrance but also many people probably walk through it quickly to just get into the park. It's merely a long hallway with painting..

The imagineers at the D23 panel specifically said that they don't want to reveal the fountain until the street is finished. They said that the fountain would be behind walls until the grand reopening. There is so much detail going into this project that they want every minute possible to complete all the details that will make this project go over the top.

Maybe they can't open it anyway, because there's more to be done to the fountain than we think, including all the trees around it. Maybe it was already quite a bit of negotiating with TDA opening this much considering some of the logistical issues it will create, for instance for the installation of the catenary of the trolley in the future.

    Lots of maybe...

As DisneylandFan95 said, the "El Camino Real" was a project once talked about that would retheme the performance corridor/parade route from the pump house at the end of BVS to the red obelisk that marks the entrance of PP. The El Camino Real in CA history, in the most simple terms, is the route the missionaries took up the coast of the state that they established all their missions on and it connected them all together. El Camino Real translates to The Royal Road in English. Parts of it still exist today (as roads, freeways, trails, etc...) and the El Camino Real is marked by recognizable iron bell poles all throughout its length. Back to DCA, the El Camino Real retheme would turn that whole portion of the parade route into something more reminiscent of Old California. This would not be an extension of the BVS theme as those are two separate themes. I remember hearing about lots of trees and landscaping that would go in, antique vehicles, and old/antique road signs and posters. A Bug's Land, Carsland, Winery, and Pacific Wharf would all remain as is but they would make it where entering these areas would feel like an exit off the El Camino Real with old looking exit signs and such. It would turn the parade route into an Old California road that serves more as a portal into all the lands of DCA off it.

*Note* This was a rumored retheme and plussing that was mentioned by several sources including Al Lutz. Whether it'll happen or not or whether it'll even happen like that idk. All I know is during the D23 BVS panel, El Camino Real was used by the Imagineers in reference to the parade route past Carthay Circle.
Thank you very much for the explanation. Now I'm all caught up. It sounds like a very interesting minor retheme: if it is just a rumor, I hope it's a true one!

Do we have any word on the finishing up of the retheme on the remaining old buildings on Paradise Pier?

It would be 282-3232. There were no Area Codes back in the 1930's, but I guess it would be Area Code 213, LA's first Area Code in the 1960's?

    So... (213) 282-3232

Who wants to try and call it and see who answers? Maybe Walt Disney will answer? Or perhaps Mary Niven?

I did a quick look up of telephone exchanges in LA. Obviously BV stands for Buena Vista. There are no exchanges in LA with that name, not to mention that it seems to be always the case that they use the first two letters of the exchange name. So BV doesn't even qualify. Anyhow, it would be 28, like you said, but that corresponds to exchange ATlantic in LA.

Still you think Disney would use this as a real Easter egg.

Well from looking from the sign from afar you see NEXT BIG STAR HOLLYWOOD, so that could mean Hollywood Pictures Backlot is the next thing to go under the knife.
