It hasn't been there that long. That area used to be walled off and was the stockroom and offices for the Citrus House. Whether it came from somewhere else of it has a name I have no clue.
I just looked it up, very interesting!
Apparently, it was a gift from Disneyland Paris. Her name is Penny and she was filled with pennies in Paris. She was moved to Disneyland Anaheim and was emptied of her pennies. This has been confirmed, but I'm still not sure if it's completely accurate
One lady wrote about how the piano man at the Coke Corner told them that at night the rubies on her crown glow and no one knows why

Oh, and I just read another website that confirmed the whole pennies and Paris thing, but it said her name is actually "Lucy" because she looks as if she was made from Lucite

Keep Disney the way Walt intended it!!
With the upcoming remodel of that area, it would be nice if the elephant got a more prominent spot.
Does anyone have a picture of this glass elephant? I have never seen it before, as I hardly ever get Ice Cream at the Disneyland Resort.

I do not know WHAT her name is! I've read the internet chatter about how she was a gift from Paris (or not) or how she was filled with pennies (or not) or how her name is Penny / Lucy etc. One post even said her name was Abe from Abe Lincoln on the pennies. This "fact" is what caused me to stop and just ask. I thought someone out there on micechat would know her story.
Anyway, she is beautiful and, I think, often missed by the casual guest. I was hoping there would be an expert out there who could give us the facts.
I'm so sad no one seems to know! I was really hoping for a good history lesson and a confirmed name for this beautiful elephant!
Oh well. Maybe there is no story. Maybe she's simply a big glass elephant at the ice cream shop. No name, no story. Blah.
Thanks anyway, everyone.
Here's a cute story about the elephant from DisneyLies:
Disneyland Tour: Green elephant « Disney Lies
NB - this is a humor blog where they make up stories about Disney stuff. It's not meant to be taken seriously.
If the part about the pennies is true, I hope they emptied it before they shipped it from France and not after!
The glass elephant was indeed created for Disneyland Paris' Main Street, and when some remodeling was done there, it was sent to Anaheim. There was an article written about it in one of the Disney magazines a while back.
"Disneyland is a work of love. We didn't go into Disneyland just with the idea of making money."
- - Walt Disney
Thanks.
I think the thing about being filled with pennies does not make sense. If it were from DLP, why would it be filled with US pennies? So her name would not be Penny.
I know she has not been there long, but I really like her and she is beautiful and unusual.
I'm about 95% sure she was on display in Penny Arcade long before she was moved to Gibson. I want to say she was towards the back with the big organ thingy... moved front when they swapped the old games for a stuffed animal display (she was the centerpiece)... and eventually moved to Gibson when Penny Arcade switched back.
