Christmas Day at Disneyland - when do they close the turnstiles?

We are planning our first ever Christmas Day experience at the DLR. However, we don't expect to get to the entrance before around 10:30 - 11am or so... Are we at risk of the park filling up (and not admitting new guests) prior to that, or should we be ok to get in around that time?

Anyone experienced this firsthand for recent Christmases?

Unless it's sold out, they close the turnstiles 30 minutes prior to park closing. As far as how busy it is, it's usually fair busy on Christmas day but not ridiculous. It will really come down to weather this year, it's expected to be another El Nino winter so you just have to wait and see.

But you will be fine arriving at that time no matter the condition or how busy the park is.

Ah, so Christmas Day doesn't get crowded like New Year's Eve? There's no danger of leaving in mid-afternoon only to find that you won't be readmitted?

It's generally not too bad, but I would check with the turnstiles to see if they plan to hit capacity. Make sure to get a handstamp, even with an AP, on these days

I would only be concerned this year on two occasion. NYE when lots of people show up for the huge and special fireworks. Also if a situation like last year occurs where it rains and on the next dry day everyone show up.

I'm not saying it will be otherwise not be crowded. It will but the risk of the gates closing is small on other days. If they do close remember they often open right after the parade runs when many leave for naps and dinner outside the park.

When the park hits capacity, the turnstiles close. When enough people exit, they reopen. If you have a 1 day ticket and are in the park prior to noon, you shouldn't have a problem. On CHristmas, even if the park closes the turnstiles while you left to nap, they will reopen when people exit after the first parade. (NYE is a different day, and don't bet on getting back in after 3pm.)

While the gates may close on Christmas, if you head to DCA for a bit, they will reopen.

Oh, and we will be there, like we have for the past 13 years.
If you see a cute yellow lab puppy with a yellow cape, WAVE! It might be us! (Or it may be someone else that lurks here!) Thank you for asking before you pet! Next trip, Dec 22-Jan 3rd.

Malcon is right. You can't compare Christmas to NYE at Disneyland, the two are not one in the same, it's different crowd projection. You are comparing apples to oranges. But what ever you do, just remember to get your hand stamped!!!! and like Malcon said-even if you can't get back just yet to Disneyland hey! no worries hop over to DCA, spend some time there and then go back to DL also fyi to those new AP holders, you may also have to get your hand stamped also..you don't need your hand stamped when it's not soo busy and or holidays at DL and DCA because you got a pass, but for the holidays they may be hand stamping even Ap holders.

When in doubt ask a CM about. They will remind you to hand stamp there will be signs that ask even AP to get a hand stamp before leaving.

    Thanks for the tips everybody!

Malcon, since it sounds like you've done this a few times - any tips for the first-timer? We'll be there the 22nd through the 25th. Surprising our kids. We've gone quite a few times in December, but not right over the holidays... We're bracing ourselves for big crowds - but we've handled the park well on crowded days in the past (July 4th, etc...) so hopefully we'll be fine.

That's thoughtful apples, thank you for offering! We have a family friend going in a couple of weeks who can bring back maps for us for that very reason.

Appreciate the advice... and I totally agree - the kids never have a problem with an extremely busy day at Disneyland - only the adults. They can certainly teach us a few things!
